Exsultet - Short Form
The two tones of the long form of the Exsultet are imitated here. The melody of the response in the first
section is based on the optional response in the long form; the melody of the response in the second
section simply completes that tone. So the response cannot be omitted from this form of the Exsultet,
but the prayer can simply be sung throughout by a single cantor, rather than as a ‘response.’
