Plot
Christmas is fast approaching, so Barney and the children are quite
excited. They help decorate the caboose for the Christmas holidays and
build a "thinking" snowman in the park. Then, they visit a tree planted by
Beth's great-great-grandfather that's now the prettiest, oldest tree in the
park. Beth's grandmother is in charge of decorating the tree for Christmas
this year, and everyone is shocked to find that the large star to adorn the
tree's top is missing! Grammy suggests it's up in her attic and dispatches
Barney and the children there to find it. Fun and playful mayhem ensue,
with constant distractions from the search by various and sundry dusty
"treasures" encountered. The kids, Baby Bop, and BJ discover- and they
become- old-fashioned toys. All dictate a musical letter to Santa, typed
on an old fashioned typewriter. When an ancient library is discovered,
Barney reads 'Twas the Night Before Christmas to the group. The elusive
star finally reveals itself, with some urging from the group. Barney and the

Production
Production for this video took place from August to September 2001
during the 9/11 attacks and before Season 7 began production. Half of
this video was filmed in the Studios at Las Colinas while the other half
was filmed at the new Marsh RD Studio in Carrollton, TX.

Writing
Stephen White, who co-wrote Barney's Christmas Star, had already
written a Barney script about Barney and the children cleaning out the
attic of Stephen's grandfather. For unknown reasons, the script was given
to Mark S. Bernthal who retooled it as a Christmas video due to it being
requested.

This video also aired on Sprout[1] from 2010 until 2013.

Much like the releases of Barney's Magical Musical Adventure, Love

To Read, With Barney and Barney's Talent Show which use the first,
second and third season intros, this video uses the seventh season
intro as it was released during the time some episodes from that
season were airing despite this video being made before that
season was produced.
For the 2002 PBS broadcast, "Just Imagine" is cut. Also, the credit
sequence is slightly shorter and features an instrumental
arrangement of "Oh, Christmas Tree" instead of "I Love the Holidays".
Filmed before her official debut as "Gianna", Selena Gomez, makes
an uncredited cameo appearance in this video.

Casting
Although Tim Dever voiced Barney in this video, Dean Wendt voiced
Barney in the promotional preview for this video.
According to Katherine Pully, the reason why Devante Warren
(Darnell) and Sullivan McCormick (Kevin) were let go after this video
and that they weren't able to appear on the television series was
probably due to school duties.[2]

The first appearances of Beth and Kami in production order,
despite Kami making her first appearance in "All Aboard!", and

Gianna made a cameo appearance in this video, albeit uncredited.
This video is revealed that Beth's last name is Phillips.
Although he appears in the story of The Night Before Christmas
