Waarschuwing
Sigma 150 aanwezige voedingsuitgang.
Warning
This device is fitted with a high-voltage EL lamp under the foil and high-voltage electronics in the
casing for operation of the lamp. Do not abrade or damage the foil and do not open the device
during operation. Danger of electrocution if the device is used improperly.
When you open the display unit avoid all contact with the indicator plate of the indicator as you
may expose the indicator to static electricity causing it to give a temporary false reading. The
device can be set only when the indicator is exactly in the central position and the device is
switched off.
The Sigma 150 and the P-100 rudder angle transmitter contain precision components and may only
be maintained by qualified Radio Zeeland personnel. Repairs by third parties may cause the device
to malfunction. Please contact your local dealer for all service requirements.
The Sigma 150 offers you the option of providing a direct power supply for the P-100 rudder angle
transmitter through the respective terminals. Please beware that should you choose to use this
option, the P-100 unit will automatically be switched off whenever the Sigma 150 is switched off. In
certain situations, especially where the P-100 rudder angle transmitter is also used as part of an
autopilot system, this may be unwanted and possibly unsafe. It is therefore important that you do
not use the power output on the Sigma 150 in these particular situations but provide a separate 24
VDC power supply to the P-100 instead.

Afregeling

Connections
The Sigma 150 can be connected to 1 or 2 power supply sources. For greater
operating reliability, we recommend to connect 2 power supplies to the Sigma
150. If the main 24V supply fails, the Sigma 150 will continue working with the
24V backup power supply.
In certain situations you are legally obliged to provide 2 separate power supplies
to the Sigma 150. Always checked whether or not this applies to your particular
installation.
If only 1 power supply source is used, the connections to the main power supply
must be looped-through to the connections of the backup power supply. Failure
to do so will result in a continuous acoustic alarm, indicating the absence of one
of the power sources. This acoustic alarm can be silenced by pressing the reset
button on the Sigma 150.
If the Sigma 150 is connected to 2 active power supply sources, the power
supply indicator LED will light up green, indicating power OK.
Should one of the two power supply sources fail, the power supply indicator
LED will light up red and acoustic alarm will sound. This alarm will disappear as
soon as both power supply sources are restored or it can be silenced by pressing
the reset button.

K2 : Sigma 150 I/O
K2 - 1 to 4: No function
These pins currently have no function and are intended for future use. Do not
connect anything to these pins.
These pins should be connected to the analog rudder angle output of the P-100
rudder angle transmitter.
The Sigma 150 expects an analog rudder angle signal from -10 to +10 VDC.
If necessary the Sigma 150 allows you to adjust the zero position and gain of the
indicator in order to obtain a correct reading. The proper procedure for
adjusting zero and gain is described further on in this manual.
Warning: always check to make sure that jumper CON2 on the P-100 is removed
before connecting the P-100 to the Sigma 150. If this jumper is not removed, the
Sigma 150 will not operate properly.
More information on this can be found in the manual of the P-100 and in the
schematics further on in this manual.

K3: Auxiliary power output for P-100
K3 contains a 24VDC power output, intended for the P-100 rudder angle
transmitter. The maximum allowed load of this output is 2.5 Amps at 24 VDC.
The 24VDC power on this output is switched on and off by the Sigma 150.
If this output is used to power the P-100 rudder angle transmitter then the P-
100 will be switched on when the Sigma 150 is switched on and switched off
when the Sigma 150 is switched off.

Operation
1 Potentiometer on/off/dim
This is a potentiometer with a switch that switches on the Sigma150 and the
power on K3 when it is turned in a clockwise direction. Turning it all the way in
a counter clockwise direction will switch off the Sigma 150 and the power on
K3.
With the device switched on, the backlight brightness can be adjusted between 5
and 100% by turning the potentiometer clockwise or counter clockwise. When
the brightness is set to its lowest value the backlight will be switched off and
only active alarms and the dimming control are illuminated.
If the brightness is increased to its maximum level, the backlight in the foil is
switched-off to increase the lamp life while backlight of the indicator will burn at
maximum brightness.
2 Reset / Test
Reset
If one of the two supply voltages fails, the red power LED will light up and an
acoustic alarm will sound. Using this switch the acoustic alarm can be
suppressed. The red power LED will remain lit until both power supply sources
are restored.
Test
If this switch is pressed when there is no active power alarm, this switch will
operate in test mode. Pressing this switch will cause the supply voltage LED to
light up red and the acoustic alarm will sound until the switch is released again.
If one of the two power supply sources fails, the power supply LED will light up
red and an acoustic alarm will sound. If both the power supply sources are
present, this LED will light up green, indicating power OK.

Calibration
After the installation is completed the device may be adjusted if needed. Place the rudder
in the central position and switch on the Sigma 150 to start the calibration procedure.
During calibration you will need to use two potentiometers on the Sigma 150 to adjust
the zero position and gain of the indicator. The location of these potentiometers can be
found in the schematics further on in this manual.
When the rudder is in the central position, turn the RAI GAIN completely clockwise
for maximum amplification. Then use RAI ”0” to adjust the indicator to the central
position.
Then turn RAI GAIN fully counter-clockwise for minimum amplification and turn the
rudder to one of its extreme positions. When the indicator turns to the wrong side you
should swap connections K2-5 and K2-6 and restart the adjustment procedure.
With the rudder in its extreme position you can adjust RAI GAIN such that the indicator
is at the extreme of the scale.
Finally check whether the rudder deflection to the other side remains within the scale
value. If it does not, turn RAI GAIN slightly counter-clockwise until the extreme scale
position is reached.
