Mechanical Waves

A mechanical wave is a wave that is an oscillation of matter, lt is a wave

that is not capable of transmitting its energy through a vacuum.
Mechanical waves require a medium in order to transport their energy from
one location to another.

TYPES OF MECHANICAL WAVES

- Water waves
- Earthquake/seismic waves
- Sound wave
- Waves that travel down a rope or spring

Electromagnetic Waves
Waves that can travel through matter or empty space where matter is not
present

- Do not need matter to transfer energy.

- Are made by vibrating electric charges and can travel through space
by transferring energy between vibrating electric and magnetic fields.
- Electromagnetic waves transfer energy and are created by vibrating
charged particles

How do moving charges create magnetic fields?\

Any moving electric charge is surrounded by an electric field and a
magnetic field.
