Proposal

Objectives of Trip:
1. To study the Koti Banal vernacular architecture of
Uttarkashi district;
2. To study the Tibetan and colonial architecture of
Mussoorie which was made by the small communities
that came to live there to see how the cultures get
interspersed once there is invasion and/or immigration;
3. For students to have some recreational time after the case
studies are done to see the culture of the area.
Itinerary:
1. 13th March: Leave college at 8-9 am, journey from
college to Barkot, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand- 9-9.5 hour
journey, therefore time of arrival will be around 6pm
with eating stop in between.
2. 14th March: From hotel to koti banal, to study the
vernacular architecture of the area, assumption that
full day will be spent studying it, 45 min journey to
and fro and breakfast excluded.
3. 15th march: leave for Mussoorie, Happy Valley, 4 hour
journey, to reach hotel times square or saffron inn and
then go visit shedup choephelling buddhist temple and
accommodation of the area, since it was the place the
dalai lama had come to before going to dharamshala, it
is quite entrenched in Tibetan culture.
4. 16th march: To Christ Church to explore the colonial
architecture of the area that has still preserved, also
 possible to first go here then to happy valley and stay
at the hosteller close to mall road which is also made
on a contour so it can also be studied. Afterwards, the
students can tour mall road etc. 13 min trip from
happy valley to christ church.
5. 17th March: Leaving Mussoorie, Mussoorie to delhi 5-
7hour journey.
6. There is also a possibility to Visit Rishikesh after koti
banal as it takes roughly the same time and expense in
terms of expenditure and we can visit bestles ashram,
raj bhawan and other temple architecture of the area.

Costing:
Tentative, will find more places with similar or cheaper costs.
1. Garhwal palace, barkot, 45 mins from koti banal: living
cost will be ~550 per person, food organization from
nearby restaurant (100-200 per meal): total cost from 13-
15 (12:00pm checkout) → 1500-2000 per person
2. Times square hotel and hosteller: similar pricing as
mentioned before but since food costs in Mussoorie may
be more expensive, 15-17: 2500
3. Bus Rental: ranging around 1L therefore, roughly around
2000 per person
4. Since these are bare minimum living expenses and will
likely go over it, the budget per person will be 7000-
9000 for the 5 day tour, emergencies not withstanding
