Discuss the differences between firefighting and fire protection and state

the major goals of fire protection and its components?

Fire Protection includes Fire Fighting System, Firefighting : Specialization in Mechanical
engineering.
Fire Alarm System: Specialization in Electrical engineering.
Fire Safety: Specialization in Architectural Engineering • Designing corridors, escape doors,
stairs, and fire escapes, taking into account the walls that prevent fire and smoke transmission,
called “Fire Rated wall’’
Goals: Continuity of operation - Property protection - Life safety
Components: Fire rated wall, Fire detection & alarm system, Firefighting system, Fire fighters

Explain what are the mechanisms of smoke management control?

Pressurization (Positive Pressure): Smoke Fan is installed on the escape stairs in each floor, as it
works in the event of a fire. A positive pressure is generated on the escape stairs to prevent the
presence of smoke from the fire area escape. The fan pressure should not exceed a certain limit, as
during a fire a normal person can overcome the door's slamming force when escaping.

Evacuation (Negative Pressure) In each building, a Smoke Fan is installed, which operates during
a fire to remove the smoke generated from the fire where it works only when a fire occurs to draw
smoke and expel it outside the building

How to prevent the occurrence of fire and Name some fire extinguishing
gases
Breaking fire triangle usually by cooling with water but in case the of petroleum or electrical fire other
agents are used like CO2-argon-novak-fm200 to break down oxygen studies have proven that fire
extinguishing occurs at an oxygen content of less than 16%. Therefore, the oxygen content is reduced to
less than 16% by using another inert in the proposed space.
Sketch a block diagram showing various fire extinguishing method

State three reasons for the usage of water as a extinguishing agent

1-cheap & available.

2. Large specific heat (Cp = 4.2 kJ/kg.K) .

3. Large latent heat of vaporization (2257 KJ/kg) .

What are the classes of fire?

Class A fire that includes solids like wood

Class B fire that includes flammable liquids

Class C fire that includes flammable gasses

Class D combustible metals

Class E includes A or B with addition of electrical appliances

Class F cooking oils and fats aka kitchen fires

Sketch and state the main components of fire based systems

A) Reliable water source & pumps

B) Piping network

C) Initiation and control equipment

D) Discharge devices
