Introduction

• ExxonMobil has developed Mobil DTE™ 20 Ultra series, a new Mono-

grade hydraulic fluid line.
• Mobil DTE 20 Ultra technology has been targeted to exceed the
excellent performance already achieved by Mobil DTE 20 Series:
• Extending oil drain intervals,
• Providing improved thermal, oxidative & hydrolytic stability,
• Maintaining excellent performance in all other areas.
• Performance advantages have been verified using key bench and pump
tests and proprietary rig test designed to simulate severe test
environments.
• Field demonstration programme in progress to further document
extended oil drain capabilities of Mobil DTE 20 Ultra.
• Mobil DTE 20 Ultra performances benchmarked against Mobil DTE 20
and main competitors.

Mobil DTE 20 Ultra Performance - Thermal Stability

Test Method: Modified ASTM D 2070 Thermal Stability Performance

Test oil is heated at 135 °C for 168 h in the presence of copper and Next generation technology shows
steel rods. improved thermal stability performance
At end of test, copper and steel rods are rated visually for and provides good rating for copper and
discoloration and the oil is analyzed for the quantity of sludge steel rod under standard conditions.
Relevance of test: high thermal stability means higher drain interval

Mobil DTE 20 Ultra Performance – Oxidative Stability

ASTM D 4310, 1000 h Oxidative Stability

This test method is designed to evaluate the oxidation stability and sludging tendency of oil in the
presence of oxygen, water, copper and iron at elevated temperatures.
The oil sample is contacted with oxygen in the presence of water and an iron-copper catalyst at 95 oC.
The test is continued for 1000 h. At end of test, acid number, amount of sludge, and amount of copper
(in sludge, water and oil phase) is measured.
Oxidative unstable hydraulic fluids can cause hydraulic system malfunctions due to filter plugging, valve
sticking, or change in viscosity of the fluid.

Mobil DTE 20 Ultra Performance – Hydrolytic Stability

ASTM D 2619, Hydrolytic Stability

This test evaluates the tendency of an oil to resist hydrolysis in presence of water and copper
components.
A mixture of 75 g oil, 25 g water and copper specimen is heated in a closed Coke bottle for 48 h at 93oC.
At end of test, weight change of copper specimen is measured. Acid number change of oil and acidity of
water layer is also determined.
Hydrolytically unstable hydraulic fluids can cause hydraulic system malfunctions due to corrosion, valve
sticking, or change in viscosity of the fluid.
