9.2 Handling / Storage and Transportation of materials at Site:

 Prior to unloading, it shall be ensured that the stack area is free from sharp projections,
stones or other protuberances.
 Pipes may be off-loaded from the vehicles by suitable capacity crane and manually.
 Care shall be taken to avoid damage of spigot during transit, holding and storage. Pipes
shall never be dragged on bare ground.
 Pipes shall not be stacked in large random piles.
 For ideal storage, pipes shall be stored elevated from ground and properly protected with
Tarpaulin sheets around to prevent direct exposure to sunlight.
 When loading pipes on to vehicles, care shall be taken not to allow them to come in to
contact with any sharp corners such as loose nail heads as pipes may be damaged by
being rubbed against these during transit.

9.3 Pre-Installation:
9.3.1 Trench Preparation and Bedding
 Centerline marking and excavation dimensions shall be done as per the Approved
drawing including clearance from the face of any structure and within necessary working
space.
 Adequate signage shall be placed near the excavation.
 Trench inspection shall be carried out as Per approved Excavation MST&ITP
 The trench bottom shall be carefully examined for the presence of hard objects, rocky
projections or large tree roots and shall be trimmed to an even finish.
 Depth of bedding shall be as per approved drawing.
 It shall be ensured that the Bedding material is free from large stones and granular
material or crushed stone or sand(to be satisfied standard specification requirements)
 Side fill will be done minimum 100mm or pipe diameter whichever is greater.
 Initial filling material shall be granular, Crushed gravel or sand, thickness shall be as per
drawing.
 Refer to the below sketch in page 7 of this method statement for bedding details only.

 On ensuring the work front availability, required quantity of pipes and fittings for
installation (as per approved shop drawing and site conditions) shall be shifted from
stores to site.
 The pipes will be laid with temporary supports flush with lower bedding on the sand bed
of 150mm thick (Lower bedding) and Side filling will be done at either sides of the pipe
with the bedding material.
 Slope of pipe shall be maintained as per the approved shop drawing.

9.4 Welding Procedure

9.4.1 Pre- Welding Checks
Prior to start of welding the below shall be ensured:
 Safety Permit for start of welding.
 Availability of Electrical Power for Welding Machine.

 The Weholite pipes to be joined by welding shall be placed at a distance of 1mtr apart
measured from pipe edge faces.

AHAR/MST/SFZ/MEP 02, Rev 0 METHOD STATEMENT FOR STORMWATER DRAINAGE Page 9 of 13

 The Outer edge of pipe face of both the pipes to be joined, shall be grinded to provide a
‘V’ groove of 60 deg. to a depth of 1/4th of the profile thickness (Refer Fig 4).
 The grinded dust shall be cleared off immediately with air blower or cotton waste.
 After grinding is completed, the pipe will be lifted with crane and moved toward the pipe
to be joined.
 The pipe ends to be welded heated up with hot air, after which molten plastic is fed
under a given pressure into the gap between the pipe ends, so creating a weld
 Refer fig no 4 for welding principle.
 External welding to be done up to OD 300-3500mm
 Internal welding to be done up to OD 900-3500mm
 The filler rod used to weld joints on WEHOLITE pipe is manufactured by AMIANTIT
OMAN CO LLC only
 Welding shall be carried out using a manufacturer recommended extruder or similar
welding machine.
 Fusion weld shall performed at temperature between 180°c and 230°c,this will be
checked either with a calibrated thermometer or if applicable, via the digital displays on
the welding machine.
 Tack weld of the joint shall be done.
 The welding of pipe shall be started from the crown of pipe proceeded to the bottom. In
case of welding interruption, the welding shall be restarted with 50mm overlap from the
finished weld point (Refer Fig-5).
 For field branch connection of storm water gully, please refer attached drawing no
LTO/SFZ/PK1A/SD/GC-01 REV 0 (APPENDIX 4)

9.5 Testing
a) Pre- Testing
Inspection shall be carried out as per the sequence referred in Inspection Test plan for
External Storm water system Installation and Testing –PE WEHOLITE Pipe during
construction & before backfilling.

b) Air Testing
Air testing shall be done as per clause no 8.2.3.9 of OMAN standard specification volume no
3.
 As soon as practicable after a length of pipe has been completed, it shall be subjected to an
air test to BS EN 1610
 Length of pipe shall be plugged and sealed and air pumped into the pipe by approved
method.
 We shall allow 5 minutes for stabilization of air temperature and adjust pressure to 100 mm,
the section will not be considered satisfactory if the air air pressure fails from 100 mm to 75
mm head of water in 5 minutes or less
 Failure to pass the air test is not conclusive and if no leakage can be traced by externally
application of soapy water to all sealing areas.

c) Inspection & Clearance

 Visual checking of all joints will be done for any leakages.
 Inspection request shall be raised for Engineer’s inspection for Pipe Laying and Gravity
testing.

AHAR/MST/SFZ/MEP 02, Rev 0 METHOD STATEMENT FOR STORMWATER DRAINAGE Page 12 of 13

 In case of no leak, clearance shall be obtained from Engineer for top bedding and further
backfilling.

9.6 Backfilling
 After inspection clearance of Air test, approved bedding and filling material will be filled
(Surrounding) as per bedding detail at page 7 of this method statement.
 On completion of the above, the upper bedding material will be water sprayed and
manually compacted. Mechanical compactors will not be used at this stage.
 Approved backfilling material shall then be filled on top of upper bedding.
 The backfilled material shall then be water sprayed and compacted using plate
compactors or equivalent.
 Plate compactor can be used only minimum 450mm above the crown level of the pipe.
