SYNOPSIS

BRICKWORKS AND CONCRETE LABORATORY covers the student a safety basic


practical works of concepts and principles regarding brickworks and concrete works.
This course emphasizes the related brick laying and standard testing of concrete.
This course also includes practical works in brickworks and concrete works in
producing a small scale project for the community.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to;

1. perform brickworks and concrete works & standard testing of concrete with
appropriate safety awareness. (P4, PLO5)

2. participate actively to complete project for the community. (A2, PLO7)

3. demonstrate ability to work in team to complete assigned tasks during


practical works. (A3, PLO11)

SST RTA

1.0 INTRODUCTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERING (00 : 03)


LABORATORY

This topic introduces the students to the knowledge and


preparation before conducting any laboratory works. The
knowledge includes:

a. procedure to handle the works


b. safety awareness
c. discipline in workshop
d. laboratory layout
e. use of tools and machines
f. distribution of marks

2.0 BRICKWORKS (00 : 21)

This topic covers about Stretcher Bond brickwork, English Bond


brickwork and Flemish Bond and wall plastering work.

This topic also includes brickworks for a project

3.0 CONCRETE WORKS AND LABORATORY (00 : 21)

This topic covers the testing of cement, sand and aggregate,


fresh concrete and hardened concrete in the laboratory. The
standard testing includes:
a. Method of Testing Cement
i. Softening Point Test

b. Method of Testing Aggregate


i. Sand Segregation Test (Fine Aggregate)
ii. Sieve Analysis Test (Coarse Aggregate)

c. Method of Testing Fresh and Hardened Concrete


i. Slump Test
ii. Compressive Strength

This topic also includes concrete works for a project
