Scenario:

The recycling of old newspapers has saved the environment. When 1 tonne of
paper is recycled each year, 7000 gallons of water, 4200 kilowatt-hour of energy
and 17 trees are saved. Old newspapers can also be reused in the production of
products such as baskets, bag handles and Paper-mâché. Starting from this simple
effort, you have played a role in building a safe, healthy and beautiful world.

Introduction:

A composite material is a material made from combining two or more non-

homogeneous substances. The matrix substances surrounds and binds the
strengthening substance together.

Example: Reinforced concrete, fibre glass, optical fibre, photochromic glass,

superconductors

Paper-mâché

Paper-mâché is a popular crafting technique that uses paper and a paste to create a
variety of objects. Paper-mâché is a composite material consisting of paper pieces
or pulp, sometimes reinforced with textiles, bound with an adhesive, such as glue,
starch, or wallpaper paste.

Objective:

● Reuse the old newspapers to create a Paper-mâché product

● Apply the concept of composite materials in the creation of new product

Apparatus and Materials:

Old newspaper, tapioca flour, water, plastic bottle, poster colour, brush

Procedure:
1. Tear the old newspaper into pieces.

2. Pour the flour and water into a bowl, then stir until it becomes sticky.
3. Prepare a plastic bottle.

4. Next, stick the old newspapers pieces with the

paste on the plastic bottle.

5. After sticking, let it dry for 7 hours.

6. Paint it by using poster colour.

7. Mum vase is done

Conclusion:
From this project, I have learned a lot knowledge about composite materials.
composite materials such as paper mache can create a variety of products.
Paper mache is an environmental friendly product because it just needs to use
the old-newspapers combined with flour and water. Besides, we can make the
product that we need by using paper mache to save money.
