Should you move to McKinney, TX?

McKinney, a northern suburb of the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) area, is a city in the county of
Collins, Texas. It is also the county seat. The city is located about 32 miles north of Dallas and
has a population of 195, 342 people. Niche.com ranked it the 21 st best DFW suburb to live in.
That notwithstanding, the city has been ranked several times on the best places to live list. The
city's highest rating came in 2014 when Money magazine ranked it as the best place to live in
America.
The city values its history, and you'll find well-preserved 19 th-century buildings as you explore.
The city has a dense suburban atmosphere with many young professionals choosing to start or
move their families there. As with a lot of towns of the DFW area, the city tends towards
conservationism and has highly rated schools.
The city is a truly beautiful place to live and below are some reasons:4
Pros
The city is a suburb of the DFW area and has all the benefits that come with that. The 68 public
schools, a mixture of high schools, elementary schools, and middle/intermediate schools, are
rated A+. The crime rate is lower than the national average, for both violent and property crimes.
The cost of living is higher than the average, though not by much. It is balanced out by the fact
that the median is also higher than the national average and by a more significant margin.
The city is ethnically and educationally diverse. Its high schools register over 90% graduation
rates. Also, 31% of the residents of the town have at least a college or associate degree.
Here are more good points of McKinney:
 High-quality public education: Most of Mckinney (roughly 66%) are served by the
McKinney ISD. The remaining residents are served by either the Allen, Celina, Frisco,
Lovejoy, Melissa, or Lovejoy ISDs. Each of these offers top-notch education. Also,
McKinney hosts the Central Park Campus of the Collins College. The Collin Higher
Education Center Campus of Collin County can also be found in McKinney. The campus
offers select bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees in partnership with some Texas
universities.
 Low crime rate: With crime rates much lower than the national average, the city is a
relatively safe place, especially for young families. Furthermore, the city was named the
safest Texas city of its size by the Community Impact Newspaper in 2019.
 Booming real estate market: Investing in McKinney's real estate could prove to be a
smart investment on your part. According to bestplaces.net, home appreciation in the
past ten years is 3.9%
 Business-friendly environment: According to the 2010 census, McKinney supported
over 2000 businesses. The figure is bound to have grown in the ten years since.
 Shopping and recreation: There is availability of premium shopping, dining, and
recreation ties alongside the business-friendly environment. Main Street offers a
multitude of antique shops, restaurants, and boutiques. To add to it, whatever can't be
found in McKinney could be found in nearby Dallas.
 History: The city has a rich historical background that it glories in. There are many old
buildings, some of them over 160 years old, that are protected and maintained. There's
also an elegantly mounted police that adds to the historic atmosphere.
 Proximity to Dallas: McKinney is about a 30-minute drive away from Dallas, one of
America's biggest cities. So, whether your pleasure is sports, entertainment, shopping, or
culture, you are bound to find it easily.
Cons
Every city has its drawbacks, and McKinney is not an exception. A lot of the cities in the DFW
area have unfriendly weather, especially during the summer months. McKinney weather can also
be a bit humid.
Best McKinney neighborhoods
It was difficult for us to select our favorite neighborhoods in McKinney, TX. Each one we
reviewed stood out to us in some way. We had to pick our favorites, though, if only for this blog
post. Here are our favorites:
Craig Ranch
Craig ranch was awarded the master-planned community of the year for the year 2014. The
community is expected to contain 1500 homes once the build-out is complete. The acreage
ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 acres. The Frisco ISD serves it.
Craig Ranch amenities include a private golf club (The TPC at Craig Ranch), a community
clubhouse, neighborhood swimming pools, a private lake, gated entrances, jogging/bike paths,
and of course, a homeowners' association.
Trinity Falls
Trinity Falls is located right by the Trinity River and will suit families and homeowners that
pursue an active lifestyle. The neighborhood features over 1700 acres of open space,
bike/jogging paths, a community pool, a dog park, a clubhouse, and an open-air pavilion. The
community also features annual events such as wine festivals and barbecues.
Provence
Provence Estates is inspired by French architecture and culture. It is located a short drive from
the center of town (in our opinion, one of its best features). Given that the neighborhood is
situated right at the edge of a park and nature reserve, it offers outdoor exploration options,
especially for young families.
The homes in this neighborhood are on the higher end of the scale but are well worth it. The
schools are top-notch as usual, and the landscape is pristinely maintained. The neighborhood
gives off an old-school vibe while still offering modern amenities.
Conclusion
McKinney is a wonderful place to live and work. The festivals, availability of choice shopping
and dining, history, and low crime rates are a combination that is hard to match. The availability
of A+ public schooling and the short drive to Dallas and Fort Worth are just the icing on the cake.
