 Reading with Students
Students enjoy when you read to them dramatically with
expressions while you teach the lesson, especially if there
are dialogues in the story.

When they read back to you, make sure they use

expressions and stress the right syllables and pronounce
letters correctly – especially the differences between ல, ள,
ழ, ர, ற etc

For stories with several characters, after you have read to

them and explained, always assign roles to students and
make sure they are reading the lines out loud in class at
least once!

The more drama you add during reading time, the stronger
the impact is of each and every word you read.

 Partner/Buddy Reading Practice
Students enjoy when a student from upper grade read to
lower grade student.

Teachers can partner up with one upper grade teacher and

have buddy reading system where the older student reads
the story for younger students. For example a grade 7
student can be partnered with a Grade 3 or 4 student. A
grade 6 student can be partnered with a Grade 2 student.

This can be done periodically, once a month when it works

out for both classes for 15 minutes time.

Story books given in the syllabus can be used or CTA

library books can be used for buddy reading.
