ESSENTIAL INTRAPARTUM NEWBORN

13. CHECK THE MOTHER’S CONDITION AND
DELIVERS THE PLACENTA
1. INTRODUCTION -strong uterine contraction to deliver placenta
- Hand washing - uterine contracted (hard)
- possible hemorrhage (soft)
2. LAYS OUT MATERIAL IN LINEAR MANNER -chech the bleeding (how heavy),
-Mayo scissors -examine the perinium, vagina and vulva for tears.
- Kelly curve/ straight -check if there’s a retain placenta/ completeness
- Plastic clamp -fetal/ maternal placenta
-*If theres episiotomy- tissue forcep - Clean the perinium for comfort

3. WEAR STERILE GLOVES (2 PAIRS) 2-3 both thighs
4-5 labia majora (inverted 7)
4. PLACE 2 TOWELS ABOVE THE CHEST 6 minora
(clean the vagina with iodine) * should be dry before putting perineal pad

5. SUPPORT THE PERINEUM 14. INITIATE BREASTFEEDING FOR THE 30-60

6. CALL OUT TIME OF BIRTH AND SEX OF THE BABY -encourage the mother to latch her new born
(baby female out, at 8:30 am) towards her breast

(1st towel) 15. ADMINISTER EYE OINTMENT, VIT. K, HEPA B,
(to prevent hypothermia) AND BCG.
Sequence: eyes,face,head,front and back,arms and -eye ointment(erythromycin) opthalmia neonatrum
legs. Vit. K(vastus lateralis)- to form blood clot normally
- Do not remove the vernix and to prevent bleeding
- remove wet cloth then replace Hepa B.(Vastus lateralis)- to prevent hepa B virus
BCG ( ID deltoid)- protect from from TB and
8. PERFORM THE RAPID ASSESMENT Meningitis.

(Perform while drying) 16. PERFORM ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASUREMENT
10/10 Head circumference- 33-35 cm
-active Chest (30-33 cm)
-normal breathing Abdomen (27-30 cm)
-pink Arm (8-9 cm)
-promp response Thigh (12-16 cm0
-pulse is over 100bpm Height (47-50 cm)
-Remove the 2nd towel Weight (2.5-3.5 kg) (2,500g-4,000g)

9. INITIATE SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT Removes the 2nd gloves


- prone position to mother’s chest
- covers the back with dry towel (2nd towel) 17. DRESS THE BABY/ TRANSPORT
-cover heas with bonet

10. REMOVE 1ST SET OF GLOVES PRIOR TO CORD


CLAMPING AND CUTTING

11. CLAMP AND CUR CORD WITHIN 1-3 MINUTES


- wait for the pulsation to cease
- 2cm above the base put the kelly curve
-the put plastic clamp above the kelly curve then
curt above the clamp

12. INJECT OXYTOCIN 10 IU IM TO THE MOTHER’S
