MATH
DRAWING 5 OR MORE-SIDED POLYGON
(eg. PENTAGON, HEXAGON, ETC.)

A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
.
To the Learner

Hi kids! Nice day to you! Learning Mathematics is a good habit

because we are using Math in our daily lives. So, learn to enjoy Math.

Let’s Learn This

In this module, will teach you the steps on how to Draw 5 or

More- Sided Polygon. A Polygon is simple closed figure in a plane
formed by three or more line segments that do not cross.
There are 2 kinds of polygons, regular polygons and irregular
polygons. Regular polygons are those with all sided and all angles of
equal measures. Irregular polygons are those whose sides are not
congruent but they contain the same number of sides.

Let’s Try This

A. Identify the different geometric figures.

1.) 3.)

5.)
2.)
4.)

- 145 -
B. Answer the following questions:

1. What polygon has four sides?

2. What polygon has three sides?

C. Draw the following:

1.) scalene triangle

2.) square
3.) equilateral triangle
4.) trapezoid
5.) rectangle

Let’s Study This

A.

- What do you see? (star)

- How many sides are there in the picture? (10

sides)

B.

- How many sides do you see? (5 sides)

- What kind of polygon is this? (A regular

pentagon)

⇒ Why is that called a regular pentagon?

 It is a Regular Pentagon
because it has equal sides and
equal angles.

- 146 -
⇒ Do you know how to draw 5 or more sided polygon?
⇒ To draw polygons, follow the steps
Example:
Drawing an eight-sided polygon. Here are the steps:
1.) Draw a circle

2.) Mark eight equally spaced points on the circle then

join these points

3.) Erase the circle

- What polygon is this? (octagon)

- How many sides is this polygon have?

(8 sides)

B. Using geoboard or graphing papers will help you to draw polygons

easily.

Let’s Do This

A. Complete the table.

NUMBER
NAME OF POLYGON GEOMETRIC FIGURE
OF SIDES

1. 9

2. DODECAGON

3.

4. OCTAGON

5.

- 148 -
B. Draw a regular and irregular polygon. Complete the chart. One is
done for you.

NAME OF GEOMETRIC FIGURE

POLYGON REGULAR IRREGULAR

1. PENTAGON

2. HEXAGON

3. DECAGON

What is the difference between regular polygon and irregular

polygon?

Let’s Do More

A regular Nonagon has 9 congruent sides and 9 congruent

angles.

Follow the steps in constructing an octagon to draw a heptagon.

- 149 -
Let’s Remember This

► In drawing figures use only a ruler and a protractor.

► A circle can be used as a guide to construct or draw a
regular polygon.
► Regular polygon has equal sides and equal angles.
► Irregular polygon are those whose sides are not
congruent but they contain the same number of sides.

Let’s Test Ourselves

Draw two different polygons with the following number of sides.

a. 8 = 1.) ______________ , 2.) __________________

b. 10 = 3.) ______________ , 4.) __________________
c. 12 = 5.) ______________ , 6.) __________________
d. 6 = 7.) ______________ , 8.) __________________
e. 5 = 9.) ______________ , 10.) __________________

Let’s Consider This

If you got 8-10, proceed to the next module.

If you got 5-7, do another exercises.
If you got below 5, review the whole module.

Let’s Enrich
Ourselves

Encircle the polygons. Explain why the others are not polygons.

Answer Key

Let’s Try This

A. B.
1. Parallel lines 1. Quadrilateral
2. Obtuse angle 2. Triangle
3. Right angle
4. Acute angle
5. Ray

C.

Let’s Do This
A.

B.

REGULAR POLYGON has equal sides and equal angles while the
IRREGULAR POLYGON has no congruent sides and angles.

Let’s Do More

Let’s Test Ourselves

- 154 -
Let’s Enrich Ourselves

Answer:

Letter C, D, E and G are not polygons because

polygons are closed figures formed by line segments
which meet only at their end points. All the line
segments are found on one place and do not cross.
