The U.S.

Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina is pleased to announce details of three


competitions for students participating in Let’s Read. Students from participating
schools are eligible for three contests, all based on Sandra Cisneros’s novel The House
on Mango Street:

 An English-language essay competition


 An English-language poetry competition
 A cartoon/illustration competition

A panel of Embassy staff will judge the entries.

First place entries in each competition will receive a cash prize in the amount
of KM 700, second place entries will receive a cash prize in the amount of KM
500, and third Place Entries will receive a cash prize in the amount of 300.
The committee will also select 12 entries to receive “honorable mentions” and
cash prize in the amount of KM 100.

All winners– students and their teachers alike – will receive certificates from
the U.S. Embassy to recognize their efforts.

Entries:
 The Embassy will send entry forms to all participating high schools.
 All entries must include the entry form signed by students and teachers. The
entry form should be on a separate page from the poem, cartoon, or essay.
 No more than one entry per student will be accepted for each contest.
 All applications must be submitted by email or post by Friday, April 7.
 Winners will be announced no later than Friday, May 5.

Eligibility:
This project is open to all students participating in Let’s Read high school programs in
Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Children or any other family members of the U.S. Embassy employees are not
permitted to participate in the competition.

Specifications and themes for each contest will be detailed on the entry form.
