Describe any 2 qualities of the Holy Prophet (SAW) which might have

proved upon the people of that time that he (PBUH) was a Prophet.
[10]
The Holy Prophet possessed excellent moral qualities which not only earned him the love and
respect of his companions and followers, but also melted the hearts of his bitterest enemies making
them believe that he was indeed, a Prophet.

One of his most noted quality was ‘Mercifulness/Forgiveness’. The Holy Prophet (SAW) said,
“Allah does not show mercy to those, who do not show mercy to others”. From this Hadith, it is
very evident that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) wanted his Ummah to not just be merciful, but also
kind, and forgiving, if they wanted Allah’s forgiveness in return. Not only this, but he also,
practically, demonstrated this throughout his life.

An example of this is when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to Al-Taif to preach Islam. He was not
only ridiculed there, but also stoned to the extent that his shoes were dipped in his own blood. Even
then, when the Angel Jibrael showed up with the Angel of the Mountain, and said that if only the
Holy Prophet (PBUH) wanted, the people of Al-Taif would be crushed between two mountains. But
the Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied, “Why should I pray for the destruction of these people, I’m
sure their posterity will surely be among the followers in One Allah”. In conditions like these,
no ordinary person could’ve forgiven them. But even after such persecution, and injustice, he did
not avail this chance to punish them. Instead, he forgave them with his merciful character, which
proves that he was a Prophet.

His merciful character could also be seen at the time of the Conquest of Makkah, where the Holy
Prophet (PBUH) announced general pardon for everyone when he came out of the Holy Kabah. He
(PBUH) asked them, “What kind of treatment do you expect from me?” the Makkans replied,
“We hope for the best. You are noble brother, and the son of a noble brother” The Holy
Prophet (PBUH) said “I will treat you as Yousaf treated his brothers. You are free from all
fears today, may Allah forgive you”. Holy Prophet (PBUH) forgave those who had left no stone
unturned in their attempts to persecute him for 23 years, which proves that he (PBUH) was a
prophet.

The Holy Prophet was very ‘Honest’, and was known as “Al-Ameen”, the Honest One, in the
corrupt Arabian society of that time. The Holy Prophet (SAW) once said, “The one who cheats is
not amongst us”. This shows the prestige of honesty in Islam, as the one who cheats is not
considered a Muslim.

His honesty and truthfulness can be seen by his marriage to Hazrat Khadija (RA), which took place
solely because of his honesty and truthful reputation. It happened when she hired this young man
(Prophet Muhammad) of Banu Hashim, for a trade trip to Syria. When he (PBUH) returned, he had
brought a lot of profit, and was praised for his honesty by Hazrat Khadija’s slave, Maisra. Seeing
this, Hazrat Khadija proposed marriage to him through her friend Nafisa. Marriage is indeed, a very
huge decision, and to make it just because of the honesty of the person speaks volumes of the level
of Prophet’s (SAW) honesty. And this did wonders in proving upon the people of the time that he
(PBUH) was a Prophet, because he was practicing his clean and honest morality in a very corrupt
Arabian society of that time.
Also, the people of Makkah used to keep their belongings with the Holy Prophet even after his call
to Islam. When he migrated to Medina, he left Hazrat Ali responsible, in Makkah, for the
belongings of the people which were entrusted with him. In his place, if there was someone else, he
would have kept the belongings with him just to teach these people a lesson for their tyranny, but
the Holy Prophet did not do so. This also proves his nobility and the extent of Honesty in his
character.
