ideas in the discussion.
What is scarcity?
-Scarcity refers to, when the demand for a
resource is greater than the supply of that
resources, as resources are limited.

“In other words, scarcity refers to the limitations

of all the resources being used by human for their
needs and desires.”

For example, You want to have the latest brand of

iPhone, however you can’t afford it because you
are in shortage of your monthly income.

People can want everything, but they can’t get

everything they want. Why?
Because there are limitations just like our
resources.

economic problem that we are facing. In our lives
what do you think are the indications of scarcity?”
“Answer may vary”

of scarcity

These are some example of different scarcity that

human are facing

 Land – a shortage of fertile land for

populations to grow food. For example, the - Students will read the examples
desertification of the Sahara is causing a
decline in land useful for farming in Sub-
Saharan African countries.
 Water scarcity – Global warming and
changing weather, has caused some parts of
the world to become drier and rivers to dry
up. This has led to a shortage of drinking
water for both humans and animals.
 Labour shortages. In the post-war period,
the UK experienced labour shortages –
insufficient workers to fill jobs, such as bus
drivers. In more recent years, shortages
have been focused on particular skilled
areas, such as nursing, doctors and
engineers
 Health care shortages. In any health care
system, there are limits on the available
supply of doctors and hospital beds. This
causes waiting lists for certain operations.
 Seasonal shortages. If there is a surge in
demand for a popular Christmas present, it
can cause temporary shortages as demand
as greater than supply and it takes time to
provide.

problem facing in the society

resources that we have.
