SCENE #1 - THE ENCHANTED FOREST
(PRINCE CHARMING runs on stage to SNOW WHITE lying in her coffin. The
DWARFS are gathered around the coffin.)
PRINCE CHARMING
Am I too late?
GRUMPY
I’m afraid so…
PRINCE CHARMING
At least let me try!
GRUMPY
I’ve already told you, it's too late!
PRINCE CHARMING
Please, let me try.
(The DWARFS work with PRINCE CHARMING to take off the top of SNOW
WHITE'S coffin. The DWARFS exit. PRINCE CHARMING kisses SNOW WHITE. SNOW
WHITE exhales a lot of air. PRINCE CHARMING and SNOW WHITE look at each other
and kiss again.)
SNOW WHITE
You found me.
PRINCE CHARMING
I will always find you.
SNOW WHITE
What of the queen?
PRINCE CHARMING
That doesn’t matter right now.

(PRINCE CHARMING kisses SNOW WHITE on the cheek.)
PRINCE CHARMING (CON’T)

There’s been something I’ve wanted to ask, and I have to ask you now before anything else
happens.
SNOW WHITE
What is it?
(PRINCE CHARMING gets on one knee and proposes to SNOW WHITE.)
PRINCE CHARMING
Snow, will you marry me?
SNOW WHITE
Of course!
SCENE #2 - ROYAL CASTLE

BISHOP
And Snow White, do you take this man to be your husband and love him for all eternity?
SNOW WHITE
I do.
BISHOP
Then I gladly pronounce you husband and wife.
(Everyone starts to clap. SNOW WHITE and PRINCE CHARMING start to kiss each
other when suddenly the doors fly open, revealing the EVIL QUEEN.)
EVIL QUEEN
Sorry I’m late.
(The EVIL QUEEN begins to walk toward SNOW WHITE and PRINCE
CHARMING.)
GRUMPY
It’s the queen! Run!
(SNOW WHITE grabs PRINCE CHARMING'S sword, pointing it towards the EVIL
QUEEN.)
SNOW WHITE
She’s not a queen anymore. She is nothing more than an evil witch!
PRINCE CHARMING
You’re wasting your time. You’ve already lost! And I will not let you ruin this wedding.
EVIL QUEEN
Oh, I didn’t come here to ruin anything. I’ve only come to give you a gift.
SNOW WHITE
We want absolutely nothing from you!
EVIL QUEEN
But you shall have it, no matter what you do. My gift to you is this happy, wonderful,
precious day. But tomorrow, my real work will begin. Soon, everything you love, everything
all of you love, will be taken from you, forever! I shall destroy your happiness, if it is the last
thing that I do!
PRINCE CHARMING
Hey!
(The EVIL QUEEN turns back as PRINCE CHARMING tries to throw a sword at the
EVIL QUEEN, but SNOW WHITE stops him. The EVIL QUEEN walks off with an evil
laugh.)
SCENE #3 - BEDROOM
PRINCE CHARMING
Snow, what’s wrong.
SNOW WHITE
Nothing.
PRINCE CHARMING
Come on. I know that look. Is this about what Regina said? If so, you have to let it go! Think
about something else. I mean, we’re about to have a baby, think about that. Think of how
happy that’ll make you.
SNOW WHITE
I haven’t had a restful night ever since that day. I mean, she poisoned an apple just because
she thought I was prettier than her! I have a terrible feeling that whatever she is planning is
way worse. We have no clue what she is capable of! She said that she will take away
everything we love. She is going to take away my baby!
(SNOW WHITE sits down and starts crying.)

SNOW WHITE (CON’T)

Let me talk to him.
PRINCE CHARMING
Wait, you don’t really mean him. Do you?
SNOW WHITE
Yes! Let me talk to him. He can see the future!
PRINCE CHARMING
No, no. It’s too dangerous.
SNOW WHITE
Well, can you promise that our child will be safe! Can you guarantee it? Can you? He can.
PRINCE CHARMING
All right! Fine! For our child.
SNOW WHITE
Thank you.
SCENE #4 - RUMPELSTILTSKIN'S CELL
GUARD
Remember, when we reach his cell, try to stay out of the light and whatever you do, do not
tell him your name.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
Hello, Snow White and Prince Charming! Step into the light and take off those ridiculous
robes. Ah, that’s better. Now, I know what you want. But I will only tell you for a price.
SNOW WHITE
What do you want?
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
The name of your unborn child.
PRINCE CHARMING
Absolutely not!
SNOW WHITE
Deal! Tell us what you know.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
Ah. The Queen has created a powerful curse. And it's coming. Soon you'll all be in a prison,
just like me, only worse! Your prison--all of our prisons—will be time. And time will stop.
And we will be trapped, someplace horrible, where everything we hold dear, everything we
RUMPELSTILTSKIN (CON’T)
love will be ripped from us while we suffer for all eternity, while the Queen celebrates,
victorious at last! ...No more happy endings.
SNOW WHITE
What can we do?
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
We can't do anything!
SNOW WHITE

RUMPELSTILTSKIN
(Reaches hand beyond bars)
That little thing. Growing inside your belly.
PRINCE CHARMING
(Draws sword and slaps Rumplestiltskin's hand with it)
Next time, I cut it off.

RUMPELSTILTSKIN
Your child is the product of true love. Your child is your only chance. On their 28th birthday,
they will return, they will find you. That is when the battle will begin.
PRINCE CHARMING
Okay. We’re done. Let’s go.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
Wait! We made a deal! What is your child’s name? What’s her name! I need her name!
PRINCE CHARMING
Her? It’s a boy.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
It’s a her, you know I’m right. Tell me, what’s her name?
SNOW WHITE
Emma. Her name is Emma.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN
Emma.
(SNOW WHITE and PRINCE CHARMING walk away with the GUARD.)
SCENE #5 - ROYAL CASTLE

PRINCE CHARMING
I say we fight!
GRUMPY
Yeah!
SNOW WHITE
I don’t think that’s a good idea.
GRUMPY
But we need to take the Queen out before she can conflict the curse.
PRINCE CHARMING
That’s the thing. I’ve sent men out into the forest to get some information. And when they
came back, they told me that this curse is happening no matter what we do.
BLUE FAIRY
That isn’t true. There is only one thing that we can do.
GRUMPY
Well, what is it?
BLUE FAIRY
Snow White, you told me Rumpelstiltskin said that your child would save us, right?
SNOW WHITE
Yes. That is true.
BLUE FAIRY
Well, there’s this tree and-
GRUMPY
A tree? Our fate rests on a tree? Let’s get back to the fighting thing.
BLUE FAIRY
But wait! There’s more. This tree is enchanted. If fashioned into a vessel it can ward off any
curse, even the queen's curse. Geppetto, can you build such a thing?
GEPPETTO
Of course. My boy and I will do it. We’ll start right now.
(GEPPETTO ruffles PINNOCHIO’S hair then picks him up and exits. The BLUE
FAIRY sighs with relief.)
BLUE FAIRY
This will work. We must have faith, everyone. But, there is a catch. This enchanted tree can
only take one.
PRINCE CHARMING
It has to be Snow!
SNOW WHITE
No! I can’t do it! I won’t leave you!
PRINCE CHARMING
Snow! It’s the only way! Once you go in there, you’ll be safe.
SNOW WHITE
But we’ll be apart for twenty eight years!
PRINCE CHARMING
What’s twenty eight years when you have eternal love? Trust me, Snow. I have faith, you will
save me as I saved you.
(They kiss, but SNOW WHITE backs away with a look of fear.)

Snow, what is it?
SNOW WHITE
The baby, it’s coming.
GRUMPY
(Shouting)
The baby! It’s here! Everyone, get out!
(Everyone walks off stage. As GRUMPY exits, he notices a big, purple cloud.)
GRUMPY (CON’T)
The curse.
SNOW WHITE
Oh, no.
(The stage flashes with purple, white, and black. Offstage, SNOW WHITE screams in
pain. Then there are cries from a newborn baby. The CHARMING’S walk on with baby
EMMA.)
SNOW WHITE
She’s beautiful.
PRINCE CHARMING
Hello, Emma.
(Quickly, SNOW WHITE looks at PRINCE CHARMING with fear.)

What is it?
SNOW WHITE
The tree…
PRINCE CHARMING
It only takes one person.
SNOW WHITE
We can’t just send her alone!
PRINCE CHARMING
I’m afraid that’s what we’ll have to do. We have to give her her best chance!
SNOW WHITE
Yeah. It’s what’s best for her. For all of us.
PRINCE CHARMING
I’ll take her. Geppetto and Pinnochio should be done by now.
SNOW WHITE
Okay. Goodbye, Emma. I love you.
(PRINCE CHARMING takes EMMA out of SNOW WHITE’S arms and runs off stage.
SNOW WHITE slowly crumbles to the ground, crying.)
SCENE #6 - ROYAL CASTLE ROOM
PRINCE CHARMING
Here it is.
(PRINCE CHARMING gently places baby EMMA in the tree. He is disturbed by the
queen’s guard, the BLACK KNIGHT. PRINCE CHARMING and the queen’s guard fight. The
guard end’s up stabbing PRINCE CHARMING in the stomach. The guard walks away and
SNOW WHITE stumbles in.)
SNOW WHITE
Charming! No!
PRINCE CHARMING
Snow. I love you.
SNOW WHITE
I love you, too.
EVIL QUEEN
Aw. Isn’t this so sad?
SNOW WHITE
Maybe this will work.
(SNOW WHITE tries to kiss PRINCE CHARMING, but it doesn’t work.)
SNOW WHITE (CON’T)

SCENE #7 - EMMA’S APARTMENT
(EMMA stands at her kitchen counter with a cupcake and a candle to celebrate her
28 birthday. She blows out the candle and hears a knock on the door. When she opens the
th
door, she sees HENRY.)

HENRY
Are you Emma Swan?
EMMA
Yeah. Who are you?
HENRY
My name is Henry. And I’m your son.
(HENRY slips under EMMA’S arm, entering her apartment.)

EMMA
Woah, kid! I don’t have a son! Where are your parents?
3. EMMA’S THEME (UNDERSCORE)
HENRY
Ten years ago, did you give up a baby for adoption? That was me.
EMMA
Give me a minute.
(EMMA walks to a corner, catching her breath.)
HENRY
You know, we should get going.
EMMA
Going where?
HENRY
Going home.
EMMA
Okay, I’m calling the cops.
HENRY
I’ll just tell them you kidnapped me.
EMMA
And they'll believe you because I’m your birth mother.
HENRY
Yep.
EMMA
You’re not gonna do that.
HENRY
Try me.
EMMA
You're pretty good, but here's the thing. There's not a lot I'm great at in life, but I have one
skill. It's called a "superpower." I can tell when anyone is lying, and you, kid, are.
HENRY
Wait. Please don't call the cops. Please come home with me.
EMMA
Where's home?
HENRY
Storybrooke, Maine.
EMMA
Storybrooke? Seriously?
HENRY
(Nods)
Mm-hmm.
EMMA
Alrighty, then. Let's get you back to Storybrooke.
(As EMMA and HENRY walk out, HENRY drops his book.)

I have a name, you know. It’s Henry. And this, I’m not sure you’re ready yet.

Oh, are they just fairy tales?
HENRY

(EMMA and HENRY hop into EMMA’s 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle.)
SCENE #8 - STORYBROOKE
HENRY
My address?
EMMA
Yep.
HENRY
Okay. Forty-four, not-tellin’-ya street.
EMMA
Look, it's been a long night and it is…
(EMMA looks at the clock tower.)
… eight fifteen?
HENRY
That clock hasn’t moved my whole, entire life. Time’s frozen here. The same thing happens
pretty much every single day.
EMMA
Excuse me?
HENRY
The Evil Queen did it with her curse. She sent everyone from the Enchanted Forest here.
EMMA
Hang on. The Evil Queen sent a bunch of fairytale characters here.
HENRY
Yeah. And now they're trapped.
EMMA
Frozen in time, stuck in Storybrooke, Maine. That's what you're going with?
HENRY
It's true! And I can-
EMMA
Then why doesn't everybody just leave?
HENRY
They can't. If they try, bad things happen.
MARY MARGARET
Oh, hi Henry! What are you doing out here? And who’s this?
HENRY
This is my mom.
MARY MARGARET
Oh. Okay.
EMMA
Hey, do you know where he lives?
MARY MARGARET
Oh. Yeah, sure, just uh, right up on Mifflin Street; the Mayor's house is the biggest one on the
block.
EMMA
Wait! You’re the mayor’s kid?
MARY MARGARET
Oh, well, I should be going.
HENRY
Yes, but she’s the Evil Queen.
EMMA
Oh, the Evil Queen…
HENRY
Yep.
SCENE #9 - REGINA’S HOUSE

EMMA
Okay, well, here’s your house. Now go, kid.
HENRY
No! Please don’t take me back here.
EMMA
I’m sure your mother is worried sick.
HENRY
She doesn’t care! She hates me! She doesn’t love me. She only pretends to.
REGINA
Henry! Oh! I’ve missed you so much! Where have you been?
HENRY
I found my real mom.
REGINA
You’re Henry’s birth mother?
EMMA
Hi.
(REGINA walks up to the car to talk to EMMA through the window.)
EMMA
How’d he find me?
REGINA
No idea. When I adopted him, he was only three weeks old. Records were sealed, I was told
the birth mother didn't want to have any contact.
EMMA
You were told right.
REGINA
And the father?
EMMA
There was one.
REGINA
Do I need to be worried about him?
EMMA
Nope. Doesn't even know.
REGINA
Do I need to be worried about you, Miss Swan?
EMMA
Absolutely not.
REGINA
I'm sorry he dragged you out of your life. I really don't know what's gotten into him.
EMMA
Kid's having a rough time. Happens.
REGINA
You have to understand, ever since I became mayor, balancing things has been tricky. You
have a job, I assume?
EMMA
Uh, I keep busy. Yeah.
REGINA
Imagine having another one on top of it. That's being a single mom. So I push forward. Am I
strict? I suppose. But I do it for his own good. I want Henry to excel in life. I don't think that
makes me evil, do you?
EMMA
I'm--sure he's just saying that because of the fairytale thing.
REGINA
What fairytale thing?
EMMA
Oh, you know, his book. How he thinks everyone's a cartoon character from it.
REGINA
I'm sorry, I--really have no idea what you're talking about.
EMMA
You know what, it's none of my business. He's your kid. And I really should be heading back.
REGINA
Of course.
(EMMA leaves, and turns around briefly to find HENRY watching her from an
upstairs window. As EMMA drives away, she notices HENRY’S book.)
EMMA
Sneaky kid.
(Suddenly, EMMA takes a quick turn and runs into a pole. Blackout.)
SCENE #10 - SHERIFF’S OFFICE
(EMMA, lying on a cot, opens her eyes. LEROY is in the cell next to her, softly
whistling “Whistle While You Work,” and MARCO stands outside, repairing a cabinet.)
MARCO
So you are eh, Henry's mother. How lovely for him to have you back in his life.
EMMA
Actually, I was just dropping him off.
LEROY
Tkh. Don't blame ya. They're all brats; who needs 'em.
MARCO
Well, I'd give anything for one. My wife and I, we tried for many years, but, uh... it was not
meant to be.
LEROY
Well cry me a river.
(ROBIN HOOD is entering and unlocking LEROY’S cell.)
ROBIN
Leroy! I'm going to let you out; you need to behave. Put on a smile, and stay out of trouble.
(LEROY smiles falsely, then exits.)
EMMA
Seriously?
ROBIN
Your drinks; a little stronger than you thought.
EMMA
What? My drinks? I didn’t drink at all last night.
ROBIN
Okay.
EMMA
I swear. I was just driving back home and something made me turn very quickly and I ran
into a pole.
(ROBIN HOOD is on the phone with REGINA. After talking with REGINA, he hangs
up and puts the phone down.)
ROBIN
Henry. He’s gone missing, again. Do you know where he is?
EMMA
No. I haven’t seen him since last night, and–
(Indicates prison bars)

EMMA (CON’T)
—pretty good alibi.
ROBIN
Yeah, well, Regina says that he wasn't in his room this morning.
EMMA
Did you try his friends?
ROBIN
Well, from what I know, he doesn't really have any. Kind of a loner.
EMMA
Every kid has friends. Check his computer? If he was close to someone he'd be emailing
them.
ROBIN
And you know this, how?
EMMA
Finding people's what I do. Here's an idea; how 'bout you let me out, and I'll help you find
him.
ROBIN
Sure.
SCENE #11 - HENRY’S ROOM

ROBIN
Hello, Regina.
REGINA
Hi- wait! What is she doing here?
ROBIN
She thinks that she can find Henry.
EMMA
And I can find him.
(EMMA gets on HENRY’S computer and looks at his inbox.)
EMMA (CON’T)
Smart kid. Cleared his inbox. I'm smart too, a little hard disk recovery utility I like to use.
ROBIN
I'm a bit more old-fashioned, in my techniques. Pounding the pavement, knocking on doors,
that sort of thing.
EMMA
You're on salary; I get paid for delivery. Pounding pavement is not a luxury that I get. Ah,
there's a receipt for a website, whosyourmomma.org—it's expensive. He has a credit card?
REGINA
He's ten.
EMMA
Well, he used one. Let's pull up a transaction record. Mary Margaret Blanchard, who's Mary
Margaret Blanchard?
REGINA
Henry's teacher.
EMMA
Let’s find her.
REGINA
Well, school’s almost out for the day.
EMMA
Then let’s go right now.
SCENE #12 - STORYBROOKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
REGINA
Where's my son?
MARY MARGARET
Henry.. I assumed he was home with you.
REGINA
You think I'd be here if he was? Did you give him your credit card so he can find her?
(She gestures toward EMMA, standing just inside the doorway.)
MARY MARGARET
(To EMMA)
Oh, Emma! You’re-

REGINA
-the woman who gave him up for adoption. Wait, you know her?
EMMA
We saw each other last night. So, you don't know anything about this, do you?
MARY MARGARET
No, unfortunately not.
(Searches for credit card.)
Clever boy. I should never have given him that book.
REGINA
What in the world is this book I keep hearing about?
MARY MARGARET
Just some old stories I gave him. As you well know, Henry is a special boy: so smart, so
creative, and as you might be aware, lonely. He needed it.
REGINA
What he needs is a dose of reality! This is a waste of time. Have a nice trip back to Boston.
(She walks out in a huff, knocking over a stack of books on the way. EMMA helps
MARY MARGARET pick them up)
EMMA
Sorry to bother you.
MARY MARGARET
No, it's--it's okay, I fear this is partially my fault.
EMMA
How's a book supposed to help?
MARY MARGARET
What do you think stories are for? These stories? The classics? There's a reason we all know
them. They're a way for us to deal with our world. A world that doesn't always make sense.
See, Henry hasn't had the easiest life.
EMMA
Yeah, from what I know, Regina probably isn’t the easiest.
MARY MARGARET
No, it's more than her. He's like any adopted child. He wrestles with that most basic question
they all inevitably face: why would anyone give me away?
(Realizing what she's said)
I am so sorry. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean in any way to judge you...

EMMA
It's okay. I completely understand.
MARY MARGARET
Look, I gave the book to him because I wanted Henry to have the most important thing
anyone can have; hope. Believing in even the possibility of a happy ending is a very powerful
thing.
EMMA
You know where he is, don't you.
MARY MARGARET
Well, I never said that-
EMMA
Tell me.
MARY MARGARET
You might want to check his castle.
EMMA
Okay, thank you.
(EMMA starts to walk away, but stops and turns back around.)
EMMA (CON’T)
Where is his castle?
MARY MARGARET
Yeah, I thought you were gonna ask that.
(EMMA and MARY MARGARET laugh.)
SCENE #13 - HENRY’S CASTLE

EMMA
You left this in my car.
(EMMA gives HENRY the book.)
Still hasn't moved, huh?

HENRY
I was hoping that when I brought you back, things would change here. That the final battle
will begin.
(EMMA is unconvinced.)
HENRY (CON’T)
Look, you're here because it's your destiny. You're going to bring back the happy endings.
EMMA
Can you cut it with the book crap?
HENRY
You don't have to be hostile. I know you like me, I can tell. You're just—pushing me away
because I make you feel guilty. It's okay; I know why you gave me away. You wanted to give
me my best chance.
EMMA
(Pause)
How do you know that?

HENRY
The same reason Snow White gave you away. Come on, there has to be something that
makes you believe a tiny bit. Something different, something you feel inside or… Please. Just
think really hard, for me.

Please don't take me back there! Just stay with me for one week, that's all I ask! One week,
and you'll see I'm not crazy. You’ll see that I’m telling the truth. But please, don’t take me
back to my mom right now. You don't know what it's like with her. My life sucks!
EMMA
Oh, you wanna know what sucking is? Being left abandoned on the side of a freeway; my
parents didn't even bother to drop me off at a hospital!
(Begins to break down)
I ended up in a foster system and I had a family until I was three, but then they had their
own kid so they sent me back...
EMMA (CON’T)
(Stops, collects self.)
Look. Your mom is trying her best. I know it's hard. And I know sometimes you think she
doesn't love you. But at least she wants you.
HENRY
Your parents didn't leave you on the side of the freeway; that's just where you came through!
EMMA
What?
HENRY
The wardrobe. When you went through the wardrobe you appeared on the side of the street.
Your parents were trying to save you from the curse.
EMMA
Sure they were. C'mon, Henry.
(He takes her hand and they walk off)
(HENRY walks over, past REGINA and starts to read his book. REGINA walks up to
EMMA.)
REGINA
Thank you.
EMMA
No problem.
REGINA
He seems to have taken quite a shine to you.
EMMA
You know it seems kind of crazy. Yesterday was my birthday. And—when I blew out the
candle on this cupcake I bought myself, I actually made a wish. That I didn't have to be alone
on my birthday. And then Henry showed up..
REGINA
(Interrupting)
I hope there's no misunderstanding here.
EMMA
I'm sorry?
REGINA
Don't mistake all of this as an invitation back into his life.
EMMA
Oh…
REGINA
Miss Swan, you made a decision ten years ago. And in the last decade, while you've
been—well, who knows what you've been doing—I've changed every diaper, soothed every
fever, endured every tantrum. You may have given birth to him, but he is my son.
EMMA
I was not--
REGINA
No. You don't get to speak—you don't get to do anything. You gave up that right when you
tossed him away. Do you know what a closed adoption is? It's what you asked for. You have
no legal right to Henry, and you're gonna be held to that. So I suggest you get in your car, and
you leave this town. Because if you don't, I will destroy you if it is the last thing I do.
Goodbye, Miss Swan.
(Begins to leave.)
EMMA
Do you love him?
REGINA
Excuse me?
EMMA
Henry. Do you love him?
REGINA
Of course I love him.
(Emma is visibly troubled and walks away. REGINA walks to HENRY and takes his
book from him. REGINA starts looking through the book. On the other side of the stage,
EMMA bumps into MR. GOLD.)
MR. GOLD
Oh, I’m sorry, dearie.
EMMA
Oh, it was my mistake. Hey, by the way. Do you know of anywhere that I can stay?
MR. GOLD
Oh, well it just so happens that I own a hotel. You could stay there. How long do you plan to
stay?
EMMA
Probably a week.
MR. GOLD
Perfect. Follow me.
(When EMMA and MR. GOLD exit, the big clock tower moves, for the first time in
twenty eight years. HENRY smiles.)
REGINA
Henry, where is it?
HENRY
Where is what?
REGINA
The page, it’s missing.

HENRY
Well it’s an old book, stuff’s gonna be missing. Why do you care?
REGINA
If you must know, I don’t like what this woman that you brought here and this book are
doing to you. I mean, you think that I’m the Evil Queen.
HENRY
Wait, I ne-
(The clock chimes, causing REGINA to look up. HENRY leaves while she’s distracted.
When REGINA realizes that HENRY has left, she spots EMMA’S car, still there.)
REGINA
Ugh. Why hasn’t she left?
(REGINA storms off. Blackout.)
SCENE #15 - SIDEWALK
(EMMA is walking on the sidewalk and spots HENRY.)
HENRY
You decided to stay.
EMMA
Yeah, I guess. Hey, shouldn’t you be going to school?
HENRY
Yep, will you walk with me?
EMMA
Fine.
(EMMA and HENRY are walking to the bus stop.)
So, what’s the deal with you and your mom?
HENRY
It’s not about us, it’s about her curse. We have to break it. Luckily, I have a plan. Step one –
identification. I call it Operation Cobra.
EMMA
Cobra? That has nothing to do with fairy tales.
HENRY
Exactly. It’s a code name to throw the Queen off the trail.
EMMA
Okay… I think I get it. Everyone here is a fairy tale character. They just don’t know it.
HENRY
Yes. It’s the curse. Time’s been frozen – until you got here.
EMMA
What do you mean?
HENRY
The clock started moving last night! You’re changing things already.
(EMMA takes out an apple.)
Hey! Where’d you get that?

EMMA
Your mom.
HENRY
Don’t eat that!
(HENRY takes the apple from EMMA and throws it over his shoulder.)
EMMA
Okay, uh… Alright. So, what about their pasts?
HENRY
They don’t know. It’s a haze to them. Ask anyone anything. And you’ll see.

So, for decades, people have been walking around in a haze, not aging, with screwed up
memories, stuck in a cursed town that kept them oblivious.
HENRY
I knew you’d get it.
EMMA
Yeah, no. I’m still confused.
HENRY

Okay, but if they did, it wouldn’t be a very good story. If you need proof, take them. Read
them. But whatever you do, don’t let her see these pages. They’re dangerous. If she finds out
who you are, then it would be bad. I got to go. But I’ll find you later and we can get started. I
knew you’d believe me!
EMMA
Yeah, well, I never said I did.
HENRY
Then why are you here?
(HENRY runs into the school. MARY MARGARET sees EMMA and approaches her.)
MARY MARGARET
It’s good to see his smile back.
EMMA
I didn’t do anything.
MARY MARGARET
You stayed. So, does the Mayor know you’re still here?
EMMA
Oh, she knows. What is her deal? She’s not a great people person.
MARY MARGARET
Yeah.
EMMA
How did she get elected?
MARY MARGARET
She’s been mayor for as long as I can remember. No one’s ever been brave enough to run
against her. She inspires quite a bit of, well, fear. I’m afraid I only made that worse by giving
Henry that book. Now he thinks she’s the Evil Queen.
EMMA
Who does he think you are?
MARY MARGARET
Oh, it’s silly.
EMMA
I just got five minutes of silly. Lay it on me.
MARY MARGARET
Snow White. Who does he think you are?
EMMA
Oh, I’m not in the book.
MARY MARGARET
Oh, I see.
EMMA
You know, this whole fairy tale obsession is kind of crazy.
MARY MARGARET
I-I hope you don’t talk that way in front of him. The word crazy is, um, quite damaging.
These stories… They’re his language. He has no idea how to express complex emotion, so
he’s translating as best he can. This is how he communicates, when he’s using this book to
help deal with his problems.
EMMA
I guess you’re right.
MARY MARGARET
Just be careful of his belief system. Hey, I actually have this file, from Henry’s school
therapist. You could look at it if you want.
(MARY MARGARET hands EMMA the file. EMMA looks at it as she walks away.
MARY MARGARET meets with REGINA.)
MARY MARGARET
So, she took it.
REGINA
Perfect.
MARY MARGARET
Why did you want her to have it?
REGINA
You’ll see.
SCENE #16 - EMMA’S APARTMENT IN STORYBROOKE
(ROBIN HOOD knocks on EMMA’S door. EMMA opens it.)
ROBIN HOOD
Hello, Emma.
EMMA
Hey. What are you doing here?
ROBIN HOOD
It’s about Henry.
EMMA
Oh, great.
ROBIN HOOD
I’ve heard from Mrs. Blanchard that you threatened her in order to get some file from
Henry’s school therapist. Is that true?
EMMA
Look, I do have his file, but she willingly gave it to me. I never threatened her.
ROBIN HOOD
Well her tale is a bit different from that. Can I please have the files?
(EMMA gives ROBIN HOOD the files.)
I’m sorry, Miss Swan, but you are under arrest.
EMMA
Listen, I don’t care what you think. I didn’t do anything wrong. She’s lying. I’m being set up.
ROBIN HOOD
Who would set you up?
EMMA
Probably Regina. She hates me, already. You know, she probably made Mary Margaret do it!
ROBIN HOOD
Look, I know Regina can be a bit intimidating, but I don’t think she’d frame you.
(HENRY runs in)

EMMA
Henry! What are you doing here?

HENRY
My mom told me everything-
ROBIN HOOD
Listen, we really should be going.
EMMA
Henry, whatever she told you-
HENRY
You’re a genius! You’re gathering information for Operation Cobra! And, Sheriff, there’s no
need to arrest Emma, because she is gonna be bailed out by Mrs. Blanchard.
EMMA
Wait, really?
HENRY
Yeah.
ROBIN HOOD
Oh, well I guess if you’re gonna be bailed out, then there is no need.
EMMA
Why would Mrs. Blanchard do that?
HENRY
She trusts you.
EMMA
Oh.

REGINA
Henry! Where have you been! You can’t keep running away!
HENRY
Okay.
(HENRY walks away. REGINA sees EMMA.)
REGINA
You! Never take Henry ever again! Henry has enough issues. He doesn’t need you confusing
him.
EMMA
With all due respect, Madam Mayor, you threatening me more and more makes me want to
stay more and more.
REGINA
Mr. Gold. It’s great seeing you here.
(Pause)
So what are you doing here?

MR. GOLD
Well I just was telling Emma that she can no longer stay in my hotel.
(REGINA steps back and smiles.)

EMMA
What? Why?
MR. GOLD
Well, we do have a “no felons” policy. I will come by to pick up your keys sometime this
evening.
(MR. GOLD exits.)

REGINA
Oh, that must be rough.
EMMA
Ugh.
REGINA
How about at five o’clock, you come by my office and we can discuss this more.
EMMA
Why would I do that?
REGINA
I think it’s time that you and I find some peace.
EMMA
Fine.
SCENE #18 - REGINA’S OFFICE

(EMMA walks to REGINA’S office and knocks on the door frame.)
EMMA
Hey.
REGINA
Emma. Please, come in.

REGINA
I’d like to start by apologizing, Miss Swan.
EMMA
What?
REGINA
I just have to accept the reality that you want to be here.
EMMA
That’s right. I do.
REGINA
And that you’re here to take my son from me.
EMMA
Okay, let’s be clear. I have no intention of taking him from anyone.
REGINA
Well, then, what are you doing here?
EMMA
I know I’m not a mother. I think that’s pretty self-evident. But I did have him. And I can’t
help that he got in my head and I want to make sure he’s okay. The more you try to push me

(EMMA walks out of REGINA’S office.)

No, I think the curse is crazy. And it is. But, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t true. It is a lot to

I’ve read the pages and, Henry, you are right. They are dangerous. There is only one way to

(EMMA rips up the paper.)

(EMMA storms off. Unexpectedly, MR. GOLD appears.)

DAVID
I hope I wasn’t the only one. You look really familiar.
MARY MARGARET

DAVID

(DAVID walks away and MARY MARGARET stands still. EMMA walks up to her.)

HENRY

(REGINA walks in.)

(EMMA stays silent. The DOCTOR exits. There’s a moment of silence.)
EMMA

(EMMA runs up to REGINA and starts fighting her. REGINA fights back.)

Emma, what are you doing? Ow!
(REGINA finally shoves EMMA down. EMMA stands back up.)

If you use the hat, and go to my palace, you’ll find a vial.
REGINA

MR. GOLD
Let me finish. Inside contains something very special. The product of true love.
REGINA
What? How did you get that?
MR. GOLD
I got a strand of hair from Charming and Snow. When I combined them, I got the product of
true love.
EMMA
Okay. Where do we find this hat?
MR. GOLD
I already have it in my shop. I will go and grab it. You two, please watch over Henry.
REGINA
Why do you care so much about Henry?
MR. GOLD
I know something you don’t.
EMMA
What is it?
MR. GOLD
I’ll go get the hat.
(MR. GOLD exits.)

EMMA
Hey, Regina. I’m really sorry about how I acted. I just… I don’t know.
REGINA
I understand. He’s my son, too. I would’ve done the same thing.
(EMMA and REGINA hug. Blackout.)
(EMMA and REGINA stand together in the center. Between them is a hat.)
EMMA
So, what do we do?
REGINA
Yeah, I was gonna ask the same question.
MR. GOLD
You must open the portal by spinning the hat. Then you will be able to get the product of
true love in my palace.
REGINA
Well then, let's get this over with.
(EMMA bends down and spins the hat.)
EMMA
What’s gonna happen when we get there?
MR. GOLD
You’re gonna do as I told you!
REGINA
Okay. We’ll do that.
MR. GOLD
Good. Be back soon. Magic here is unpredictable. Who knows what will happen to Henry if
this doesn’t work…
REGINA
Gold! Why do you care so much about-
MR. GOLD

(Blackout.)

EMMA
What about Henry? Think of how badly this could affect him!
REGINA
Well, right now, he is unconscious!
(REGINA starts crying.)

EMMA
Okay, fine.
HOOK
Okay, so what are you looking for?
EMMA
A vial. A pink vial. It’s said to be the “product of true love.”
HOOK
Aye…
(HOOK looks at a painting on the wall. It says “Beloved Son.”)
EMMA
What’s that?
HOOK
A painting. A painting of Rumpelstiltskin’s son.
REGINA
He had a son?
HOOK
Yeah. He called him Bae. Short for Baelfire.
EMMA
Baelfire. Where have I heard that before?
REGINA
You’ve heard that name?
EMMA
Maybe. It sounds familiar. I don’t know. It might just be from Henry reading me all of his
stories.
REGINA
Possibly.
HOOK
Found it! I think…
(HOOK holds up a pink vial.)

EMMA
How did you find it so quickly?
HOOK
Well, I have been living here for twenty eight years, I think I know my way around here and
where Rumpelstiltskin used to keep his belongings.
(EMMA smiles and REGINA takes the vial out of HOOK’s hand.)
REGINA
Now, let’s get back home.
EMMA
Right. How do we do that exactly?
REGINA
We go this way.
(REGINA points to exit stage right.)
HOOK
Aye. And I can get my revenge.
(EMMA, REGINA, and HOOK exit stage right. Blackout.)

MR. GOLD
You’re back. And I see you brought someone with you…
REGINA
Yes, we did. And we have the vial. Now how will it work?
MR. GOLD
Give it to me.
REGINA
Why would I do that?
MR. GOLD
‘Cause I’m the only one who knows how this will work. Now, give it to me!
REGINA
Fine!
(REGINA hands the vial to MR. GOLD.)
MR. GOLD
Now, meet me at the hospital. I have to get some extra supplies in my shop.
EMMA
Okay. Come on, let’s go.
MR. GOLD
I’ll meet you there.
(EMMA, HOOK, and REGINA start to exit, but HOOK stops them.)
HOOK
Is that him? Is that Rumpelstiltskin?
REGINA
Yes-
(HOOK starts to go after MR. GOLD, but REGIN holds him back.)
But you can’t do that right now. You can’t get your revenge quite yet. We need him to help us
cure Henry. Then, after that, you can “skin you a croc.”
EMMA
Regina’s right. We need Gold. He is our only hope of saving Henry.
(EMMA, REGINA, and HOOK exit.)
MR. GOLD
They really think a little vial of pink stuff is going to work. They were wrong to trust me.
(Chuckle. MR. GOLD opens up his jacket to reveal different vials of dusts and liquids.
He grabs a couple of them and starts to pour them into Storybrooke’s wishing well. MARY
MARGARET and DAVID walk by and notice MR. GOLD.)
DAVID
Mr. Gold? What are you doing?
MR. GOLD
Go, now! You don’t want to be here right now.
MARY MARGARET
You tell me that makes me want to stay more.
MR. GOLD
Get out! Or else you will regret it one day, dearie.
(MARY MARGARET and DAVID are confused by “dearie.” They’ve never heard him
say something like that before. Then they exit.)
MR. GOLD
This is going to work! I know it will!
SCENE #32 - HOSPITAL
(EMMA is sitting by HENRY’s hospital bed, crying and holding his hand. REGINA is
pacing back and forth, trying to figure out what is taking MR. GOLD so long.)
REGINA
Where is he! He should be here by now! That’s it! I’m gonna go look for him. Emma-
(REGINA notices EMMA crying.)
REGINA (CON’T)
Hey, we’re going to fix this. Henry is gonna be okay.
DOCTOR
Emma, we’re trying everything we can to help your son. I promise.
HOOK
He’ll be okay, Emma.
(HOOK pats EMMA’s back. After a moment of silence, HENRY’s heart monitor starts
to beep.)
REGINA
No… no…
EMMA
I love you, Henry.
(EMMA kisses HENRY on the forehead, which causes the spell he was under to be
broken. A pulse of magic spreads throughout Storybrooke. He wakes up and gasps.)
HENRY
I love you, too. You saved me.
REGINA
You did it.
(The pulse of magic awakens everyone in the town. Soon, a crowd begins to gather in
HENRY’s room.)
EMMA
Henry… What’s going on?
HENRY
The curse… I think you broke it!
EMMA
What?
(EMMA and HENRY hug.)
REGINA
No.
MOTHER SUPERIOR
True love kiss.
REGINA
No. No!
MOTHER SUPERIOR
If I were you, Your Majesty, I’d find some place to hide.
REGINA
Henry… No matter what you think, no matter what anyone tells you, I do love you.
(REGINA flees the room, EMMA and HENRY hug again.)
(REGINA is running quickly, looking back behind her to make sure no one is
following her. Then she bumps into ROBIN.)
REGINA
Ah!
ROBIN
Regina.
REGINA
Robin, please. I know what I’ve done, what terrible things I’ve done. I just-
(ROBIN kisses REGINA.)

REGINA (CON’T)
What?
ROBIN
I love you!
REGINA
What?
ROBIN
I know we were cursed to be in love, but I do love you! I do!
REGINA
And why are you telling me this?
ROBIN
The truth is, I’ve loved you for a long time.
REGINA
Really?
ROBIN
Yes. I do. I love you.
(ROBIN and REGINA kiss.)

REGINA
But, wait! Everyone in this town, they hate me! They all think I am still evil. What should I
do?
ROBIN
Come with me.
(REGINA and ROBIN hold hands as they run offstage. MARY MARGARET and
DAVID run onto the stage to kiss each other.)
DAVID
I found you, Snow.
MARY MARGARET
Charming.
(They kiss.)
You found me.

DAVID
I will always find you.
(They hold hands as they walk offstage. MR. GOLD still stands on stage as REGINA
and ROBIN run in and stop as they see MR. GOLD.)
REGINA
You, what are you doing here? What happened to the antidote you were gonna make or
something?
MR. GOLD
Well, you see… that wasn’t actually the product of true love. Did you really think I would just
have it out in the open in my castle? Of course not! That vial you gave me was something
else. And with its magic I can use it to find two very special things.
REGINA
So you never intended to help Henry, did you?
MR. GOLD
Oh, I did. Once I brought back something that we needed for your needs and mine.
(Pause)
MR. GOLD (CON’T)
Magic. I need magic to find my son. I need magic to find Belle. I need magic to help my
grandson.
ROBIN
You have a grandson?
MR. GOLD
Henry. Henry is my grandson.
(REGINA is shocked)
REGINA
How in the world do you know that?
MR. GOLD
Simple. I offered Emma a place in my inn and she took the bait. Then while she was out
faking to believe Henry, I got a strand of her hair in her bed. I also managed to get some of
Henry’s hair, too. So once I did that, I found out who Henry’s father was. My son. Let me ask
you, Regina. When you were in my castle, did you see a picture of a young boy named
Baelfire?
(REGINA nods.)
And did this name sound familiar to Emma?
(REGINA nods, again.)

That was all because she knows my son. She happened to have a baby with him. And this
baby just so happened to be your adopted son. Oh, wait! But I set you up with the adoption
agency. Hmm… coincidence?
ROBIN
You knew all of this would happen?
MR. GOLD
Please. I only knew that Emma would one day break the curse.
REGINA
Please, can you help me! I need to find a safe space so no one finds me.
MR. GOLD
Why should I do that?
REGINA
I’ll tell you where Belle is!
MR. GOLD
Why do I need your help when I can find her with my magic that I will soon have?
(MR. GOLD pulls out the pink vial and pours it into the well. Smoke starts to come
out of the well.)
ROBIN
Is that… magic?
MR. GOLD
Yes.
(Chuckle)
Finally, now I can find him!
(MR. GOLD exits. EMMA runs on stage.)
EMMA
Regina! What’s going on?
REGINA
Honestly, I don’t know. Remember when you thought the name Baelfire sounded familiar.
EMMA
Yeah.
REGINA
Turns out that’s Henry’s father. And Gold’s son.
EMMA
What?
REGINA
Yeah. It’s crazy, but-
LEROY
It’s the Queen!
(LEROY and the ENSEMBLE charge after REGINA.)
ROBIN
Regina, you have magic now.
(REGINA uses her magic to stop everyone and make them fall to the ground.)
REGINA
People of Storybrooke. I am sorry for my reckless behavior. I was cruel and was only out for
revenge on Snow White and her Prince Charming. I didn’t stop to think about forgiveness.
(Beat. MARY MARGARET and DAVID enter slowly.)
I trusted Snow White with a secret when she was very young, and she didn’t keep it. I was so
angry at her, when she was only a child and was only trying to help. She thought she could
make things better. If I just could’ve seen that before, none of this would’ve happened. But, I
am glad this did happen.
(Everyone gasps and starts to talk amongst themselves HOOK enters.)
If this didn’t happen, I wouldn’t have learned my lesson. I would still be trying to kill Snow
White and Prince Charming. If this didn’t happen… I wouldn’t have Henry. And yes, now he
has his own mother, but I would've been able to love and enjoy the time we had together
while it lasted. I am so sorry for everything I’ve done and none of you ever deserved this. I
know it’ll be hard, but please try to forgive me. But I do understand if you don’t.
(LEROY gets up and slowly walks towards REGINA. Then he gives her a big, warm
hug. HENRY runs in.)
HENRY
Mom!
(HENRY runs to REGINA. LEROY backs away as HENRY hugs REGINA.)
REGINA
I love you, Henry.
HENRY
I love you, too, mom.
(MARY MARGARET and DAVID notice EMMA.)
MARY MARGARET
Emma?
EMMA
Mom? Dad? Is it really you?
DAVID
Oh, Emma.
(They hug.)
MR. GOLD
Emma! Where is Baelfire?
EMMA
Bae… He passed away.
MR. GOLD
What?
EMMA
It was a terrible accident. I’m so sorry.
MR. GOLD
Oh.
BELLE
Rumple?
MR. GOLD
Belle!
(MR. GOLD and BELLE hug.)
PINOCCHIO
Father! Father!
MARCO
Oh, my son! Pinocchio!
(PINOCCHIO jumps into MARCO’s arms.)
