DEFINE THE FOLLOWING;

1. Vessel
A container (such as a cask, bottle, kettle, cup, or bowl) for holding something. A person
into whom some quality (such as grace) is infused.

2. Power driven vessel


It is any vessel propelled by machinery. A sailing vessel is any vessel under sail,
provided that propelling machinery, if fitted, is not being used.

3. Sailing vessel
Is a sea-going vessel that uses sails mounted on masts to harness the power of wind
and propel the vessel. There is a variety of sail plans that propel sailing ships,
employing square-rigged or fore-and-aft sails.

4. Vessel engaged in fishing


Is a vessel engaged in fishing means any vessel fishing with nets, lines, trawls, or other
fishing apparatus which restricts maneuverability, but does not include a vessel fishing
with trolling lines or other fishing apparatus which do not restrict maneuverability.

5. Seaplane
An aircraft with floats instead of wheels, designed to land on and take off from water.

6. Vessel not under command


Vessel not under command means a vessel which, through some exceptional
circumstance, is unable to maneuver as required by these Rules and is therefore unable
to keep out of the way of another vessel.

7. Vessel restricted in her ability to maneuver


Vessel restricted in her ability to maneuver” means a vessel which from the nature of
her work is restricted in her ability to maneuver as required by these Rules and is
therefore unable to keep out of the way of another vessel.

8. Vessel constrained by her draft


Vessel constrained bv her draught '' means a power-driven vessel which, because of
her draught in relation to the available depth and width of navigable water, is severely
restricted in her ability to deviate from the course she is following.
9. Vessel in sight with one another
Vessels shall be deemed to be in sight of one another only when one can be observed
visually from the other. (l) The term “restricted visibility” means any condition in which
visibility is restricted by fog, mist, falling snow, heavy rainstorms, sandstorms or any
other similar causes.

10. Differentiate underway from making way.


The word "underway" means a vessel is not at anchor, or made fast to the shore, or
aground. "Making way" means the vessel is making its way through water. If the vessel
is drifting and moving with current, she is underway but not making way.
