Pre-assessment of current knowledge: The teacher will ask the students what they know about a play or a performance. The teacher will write down
everything that the students say. This will let the teacher know if the students are familiar with knowing what a play is or creating a play.

Lesson Title: The Three Little Pigs Performance
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Assessment of Student Learning
Identify Evidence: (What will you collect or record as data
to demonstrate students have met your objective(s) and
skill?)
The teacher will record while the students are preforming
the play to the other kindergarten classes. The play will
represent the student’s ability to create a play and work
with others. The teacher will also take pictures of the
houses that the students made to show the multiple types
of media they used. If students were able to have houses
created and a complete play, I will know that they have
met their objective.
Program Monitoring: (How will you aggregate or compile
your evidence into a class or group view?)
The teacher will watch the recording of the play to
determine if the students understood the play. If most of the
students seemed to know their parts and enjoy the play, I
will know that they are able to work with others, multiple
types of media, and stay persistent through a long project.
Differentiation:
If a student is not able to perform the play in front of others,
I can have them be a “director” of the play. The student will
help make the setting of the play and stand off camera

Procedural steps:
1. The teacher will start the class by asking the
students if they know anything about plays or
performances. The teacher will also ask if the
students have ever done a play or seen one. The
teacher will write down what the students say.
2. The teacher will read the fairytale “The Three Little
Pigs.” The teacher will read the story aloud to the
students while they gather at the carpet. The
teacher will tell the students to pay attention to the
different characters and settings in the story.
3. After the story is read, the teacher will ask the
students to list the different characters that were in
the story. The teacher will write down the different
characters on the board. The teacher will also ask
the students what different settings/buildings the
students noticed and write this on the board.
4. After, the teacher will assign some students to a
character in the book based on preference. The
remaining students who did not get a part will be the
music in the background of the play.
5. Students will all work together to create the three
houses in the story for the setting. The teacher will
give the students large cardboard pieces and the

during the play and direct the students where to go. students will all color on it to make the straw house,
brick house, and stick house.
6. The students will then practice their parts in the play.
The teacher will be reading the story out loud while
the students who play a character act out what the
character is doing in the background. The students
who are not a character will have shakers and small
drums that they will play when the wolf blows down
each house.
7. Lastly, the students will put on the small play for the
other kindergarten classes.

Authentic Materials: (Describe authentic real life, hands-on

materials.)

The story “The Three Little Pigs,” the cardboard for the
setting, and the musical instruments (drums and shakers).

Adult Roles:

The main teacher will read the book to the students, observe
while the students are creating the houses for the setting,
and read the story out loud while the students are
performing it. The aid in the classroom will assist children
with creating the houses for the setting. The aid will also
help students with understanding what they are doing for
their part in the play.
