PLACING TEXT IN AN IMAGE
Quarter 1- Week: 7

To the Students:

In this Self Learning Kit, you will be introduced to different learning activities
preparing you to be skillful before you take the plunge into the world of work as a
hardware service provider and to feel more confident while providing support where
needed. Indeed, as learners of hardware servicing, you are a crucial link in the
emergency response process. Ideally, everyone should know what to do in an
emergency situation, but proper training can help an individual provide basic care.
To get the most from this Learning Kit, you need to do the following:

Performance
Standards. These tell you what you should know and be able to do at the end
of this Module.
2. Do the required Learning Activities and Assessment tools. Please have paper
and a pen to write down your answers.
3. Demonstrate what you learned by doing what the Activity directs you to do.
4. You must be able to apply what you have learned in another activity or in real
life situation.
5. Accomplish the Scoring Rubrics for you to know how well you performed.
Each Lesson also provides you with references and definition of key terms for
your guide. They can be of great help. Use them fully.
6. This Learning Kit is good for 1 week. After mastering the lessons, submit it
and wait for the next Learning Kit.

The Type Tool


The Type tool is important because it gives you the capability to enter a text into
an image. You can edit the text, change its color and apply effects. You can view the
different tools by holding the triangle at the Text tool button and the hidden menu will
be displayed. Selecting one of the options will activate the selected tool.

Create a Type
There are three ways to create a type.
1. Point Type- to create a point type, click the Type tool and then just point it to
the image. It is a horizontal or vertical line of text that begins where you click and
goes on as you type. There is no boundary so you have to press the Enter key
to make a second line.
a. On the Tools panel, click the Type tool and select the Horizontal type tool.
b. Click on the image and type your text.
2. Paragraph Type- this type is a box type that uses boundaries to control the flow
of the characters in the text. This is helpful when you want to create more
paragraphs. By doing this, you need to select the Type tool and then drag the
tool to create a square border where you want to place your text.
a. On the Tools panel, click the Type tool and select the Horizontal type tool.

b. Click on the image and drag the mouse to form a text box.
c. Type your text inside the text box.
3. Type on a Path- this tool flows along the edge of an open or closed path. The
text flows in the direction in which points were added in the path.
a. Click the Ellipse tool from the Tools panel.
b. Click Paths from the Options bar.
c. Click Text from the Toolbox.
d. Click on the edge of the circle until the cursor changes to a line with S
shape.
e. Type your text.
f. Click any of the Layers panel to deselect the command.

Moving Text
You can move or arrange your text to another location in the image.
a. If there are several layers in your image, select first the text layer from the
Layers panel.
b. On the Tools panel, click the Move tool.
c. Click on the text and drag your mouse to move the text.

Modifying Text
You can edit, resize and color your text in the Photoshop. You can even use the
tools for images in editing your text.

Resizing Text
a. Place your mouse pointer on the corner of the textbox until it turns into a
double-headed arrow.
b. Click and drag the mouse to increase or decrease the size.

Rotating Text
a. Place your mouse pointer on the corner of the textbox until it turns into a
curved two headed arrow.
b. Click and drag your mouse in circular motion.

Skewing Text
a. Hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard.
b. Click the edge of the textbox and drag the mouse to slant the text.

Editing Text
To edit the text, you should open the Character panel. As seen in the image,
there is no character panel so you need to open it from the Menu bar. The Character
panel shows font options which will allow you to edit your text.
a. On the Menu Bar, click Window>Character and the Character panel will
appear.
b. On the Tools panel, click the Type button, click on the text and highlight it.
c. On the Character panel, select the font, size or color you want to apply.

Coloring Text
You can color or change the color of your text.
a. On the Tools panel, click the Type icon.
b. Click on the text in the image and highlight it.
c. On the toolbar, click the Set foreground color button.
d. When the Select Text Color dialog box appears, click a color and click OK.
e. The new color will now be applied on your text.

Warping Text
You can create different kinds of text through Warp text. This will modify the text
to different kinds of styles to create fun in your text.
a. On the Tools panel, click Type and click the text on your image.
b. On the Menu Bar, click Layer> Type> Warp text.
In the Warp text dialog box, you will see the Style command with a drop down
menu that allows you to choose what to do with the text. Click the drop down menu
and select the style that you want to apply in your text.

Deleting Text
To delete the entire text:
a. Click the text layer from the Layers panel and click the Delete layer button.

To delete a portion of the text:


a. On the Tools panel, click the Type tool
b. Click the text on your image and press Backspace key or Delete key of the
keyboard.

Using Drop Shadow
You can create various effects on your text such as Drop Shadow, Inner Glow,
Outer Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Satin and many others.
a. On the Tools panel, click Type and drag your mouse on the image to create
a textbox
b. Type your text and highlight it.
c. On the Menu Bar, click Layer, click Layer Style and click Drop Shadow
d. When the Layer style dialog box appears, make the necessary angle, color
and distance adjustments
e. You can check the result in your image and return back to the dialog box until
you reach your desired outcome.

Using Bevel and Emboss


There are many options in the Bevel and Emboss effect. Aside from the color,
style, angle, there is Gloss Contour and other adjustments. You can experiment and
combine them with other effects.

Using Inner Glow


Inner Glow can make your text glow inside. You can apply this effect by going
to the Menu Bar and click Layer>Layer Style>Inner Glow and then the Inner Glow
option window will appear. Make your adjustments and click OK.
You can remove the Inner Glow by selecting the Inner Glow layer and from the
Styles panel, select the white box with the red line which will cancel the effect.

Using Outer Glow


The Outer Glow effects adds faint color to the outside of your text. You can add
this effect by selecting the layer that you want to edit. Go to the Layer menu and then
select Layer Style. Click Outer Glow and then the option window will appear. You
can edit or change the opacity of your outer effect as well as the noise.
You can change the Outer Glow color by selecting the color box below the Noise
Slide tab. This will open the Color Picker window.

Using Distortion Effect


Text can have one or more filters as special effect. Before you can apply the filer
on the text, you have to convert the text first to an image.
a. On the Text panel, click the Text Layer
b. Add new layer and move it below the text layer by dragging the layer name.
c. Click the Text layer and press Ctrl+E to make the text an image.

d. On the Menu Bar, click the Filter>Distort>Wave

Using Texture and Relief Effects


Another effect using filter is the Texture and Relief.
a. On the Text panel, click the text layer you will work on.
b. Click Add New Layer and move it below the text layer by dragging it by the
layer name.
c. Click the text layer you are working on and press Ctrl+E to make the text an
image.
d. To use the Blur, on the Menu Bar, click Filter>Blur and choose the kind of
Blur you want from the sub menu.
e. To use the Pixelate, on the Menu Bar, click Filter>Pixelate and choose from
the selection.
f. To use the Stylize, on the Menu Bar, click Filter>Stylize and choose from the
options.

GENERALIZATION

into an image. You can edit the text, change its color and apply effects.
