POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title Engineer – Civil

Reporting To Design and Engineering Team leader

Location Dannevirke - Tararua

Purpose

The Civil Engineer will work closely with the Design and Engineering team leader and the wider Tararua
Alliance team applying technical knowledge and support to manage and/or execute the investigation /
engineering and design of a range of civil and structural projects within the Tararua district.
The role will work closely with technical and physical works teams to identify and have strong input into all
design/build projects and to provide the design input necessary to deliver cost effective innovative solutions.
Whilst reporting to the Design / Engineering team leader, the position forms part of the wider Downer and
Tararua District Council Technical Services Community. You will therefore work closely with other technical
experts both locally and nationally, to ensure we deliver on the best possible outcomes for the Tararua District
and its customers.

Qualifications and Experience

It is desirable to have:
▪ BE (Civil) or other relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering
▪ Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
▪ Member or Fellow of The Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (MIPENZ or FIPENZ)
▪ Specialist experience in one or more technical engineering disciplines
▪ Proven willingness and capability to learn
▪ Strong problem solving skills
▪ Good written and oral communication skills
▪ A strong track record that clearly demonstrates leadership behaviours that empower others to make
decisions, deliver and succeed.
▪ A positive attitude and commitment to providing a high quality of service
▪ Skilled in relevant technical software and systems as well as word processing, spread-sheeting and
other general computer software
▪ A full class 1 Driver’s Licence
