o is the art of manipulating and creating objects by subtracting and shaping solid material such as
wood and stone.
WEAVING
o is the art of interlacing threads or fibers to create textile, fabric or other similar products.

MUSIC
KUNDIMAN
o an art song that signifies love and affection for someone.

o A traditional courtship ritual in the Philippines wherein a suitor serenades his object of affection.
o Almost any love song can be sung during the harana, including kundiman songs.
BALLAD
o Song that narrates an event in a community.
o In modern times, ballad has been applied to describe love songs, and a balladeer is an artist
whose set of songs is primarily composed of romantic songs
CHAMBER MUSIC
o Is a form of instrumental music composed by a small ensemble wherein each part is played by
one player, as opposed to an orchestra here a part is performed by a group of musicians.
CHORAL MUSIC
o a musical composition intended to be performed by a group of singers called choir
o is arranged according to voice categories
LITURGICAL MUSIC
o are songs intended for Christian church services. Its earliest form was inspired by Jewish chants
during the religious rituals.
OPERA
o Is a combination of both music and theater.
o it is sung drama that entails collaborative efforts of singers, dancers and composers etc.
POP MUSIC
o Used to describe music that is readily available to the broad populace.
o It is an umbrella term that encompasses a multitude of different genres of music such as RnB,
Rap, Rock, Hiphop etc.
PROTEST SONGS
o are songs that bring to light injustices and inequality in society.
o They seek nationalism and heroism form their listeners.
DANCE
It is a way to bond and share our talents.
it can reflect the group’s values and beliefs like the Samal’s pangalay which is a “fingernail” dance of
the Tausug people.

AEROBIC DANCE

o OPERA BALLET: also called as rock ballet. This combines dance and song

o under the category of folk dances are mimetic dances

it is the ultimate art since it is a collaborative art form

BRECHTIAN THEATRE
o this is an example of modern theatrical show “EPIC THEATRE”
o It is hoped that after watching the play, the audience would recognize the injustice presented
and awaken change in the society
CHILDREN’S THEATRE
o performed by children or by adults for children
o this type of theatre is intended to educate, inspire and encourage creativity and value formation
MELODRAMA
o it is a non-musical play that is intended to elicit tears and emotional attachment to the
characters.
o MAIN CHARACTERS: victims of tragedy
DRAMATIC MONOLOGUE
o an individual actor speaks and acts out the character’s thoughts and emotions.
o it is a one-person performance
TALA DULA
o also called as poem play and was developed by UP in the 1970s.
o a poem is dramatized by the narrator
o it requires little in terms of staging and costs
POLITICAL THEATRE
o the intention is to transform or improve the current system of government
o SEDITIOUS PLAYS: use symbolism and allegory to deliver their anti-government sentiments.
o this plays are also called as symbolic dramas
o CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDITIOUS PLAY: ❑ rebellious in nature ❑ risky
o STREET THEATRE: the contemporary versions are protest plays in the streets like rallies,
strikes, marches, etc
MUSICAL THEATRE
o this includes traditional Filipino theatre like sarswela and ritualistic dramas
o Music is an essential part of the production
REALISM
o provides accurate depiction of real- life situations
o this is achieved through well- developed and authentic portrayal of characters
