THE TRINITY

The subject on trinity is the subject which attempts to find knowledge about God. This subject is a
difficult subject to fully comprehend because it tries to know about an infinite God with the finite
mind (Isaiah 55:9 For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your
ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts). Since He is eternal, it will take man eternity to fully
understand Him. If ever it was possible to fully comprehend God, He would cease to be God because
how can you understand eternity without being eternal yourself. God is fully understood only by
Himself in the trinity but He gave us a glimpse of who He is in the Bible though it might bring
confusion a little bit. He has done this so that we can see how difficult this subject can be to
understand and now we’ll explore the revealed truths about God.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

It is well known that there is only one God who is the creator of the universe. This is the belief which
is shared by Christians, Jews and many other religions but now this God reveals Himself much more
in the Bible. The Bible continues to reveal other things when we continue reading.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...

Who was God speaking with in the above passage of scripture when He said “let us” or “our image”
or “our likeness”. The analysis of the above scripture shows that God has others with whom He
shares the same image and creative power. But the Bible continues to say that God is one.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

Act 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is
like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

There are three individuals/ persons in this One heavenly God and we’ll see this from the scriptures
as we continue. The first to be discussed is the Holy Spirit, then the Son (Jesus) and finally The
Father.

HOLY SPIRIT

Genesis 1:20 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the
deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”, shows the presence of the Holy
Spirit in creation.

The Holy Spirit was there in the Old Testament as God and he continues even in the New Testament.
Genesis 41:38 “And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find [such a one] as this [is], a man in
whom the Spirit of God [is]?” Exodus 34:33,34 “And [till] Moses had done speaking with them, he
put a veil on his face. But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the veil
off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel [that] which he was
commanded.” Take note that Moses goes before the Lord who is actually God but when we go to
another scripture there is a revelation of that this Lord/God is the Holy Spirit (2corinthians 3:13,16-
18 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that
Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as
in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the
Spirit of the Lord.)

This Spirit came upon Jesus on the day of baptism (Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized,
went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him). He also manifested Himself in the day of
Pentecost (Acts2:1-4 and when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in
one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled
all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire,
and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Who else is part of the Godhead?

JESUS CHRIST

Jon 1:1-3,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any
thing made that was made. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. There is only one who
became flesh who was God in the beginning and that is Jesus Christ, He is also cold Emmanuel which
is translated God with us (Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a
son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us).

God the father calls Jesus “God” (Heb 1:8 But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever
and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom). There are also scriptures which
confirms Christ as the creator (Colossians 1:15, 16 Who is the image of the invisible God, the
firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all
things were created by him, and for him). Jesus Christ is the creator and He is fully God (Col 2:9 For
in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.)

THE FATHER

The one that we normally call God, Jesus calls Him the father. There are many passages in the Bible
which talks of God the Father using this common tittling but I will give only few: When He taught his
disciples how to pray, He said they should say “...Our Father which art in heaven...” (Matthew 6:9),
He also spoke with Mary about this father (John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am
not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father,
and your Father; and [to] my God, and your God). The Father comes as a dominant figure, though
they are one because we have phrases such as “Son of God” (Dan 3:25 He answered and said, Lo, I
see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the
fourth is like the Son of God) and “Spirit of God” (Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the
Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is
none of his).

These Three are One, They work together for the salvation of man and are inseparable.
1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy
Ghost: and these three are one”.
2Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of
the Holy Ghost, [be] with you all. Amen.
Mat 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the
heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting
upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Ephessians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in
you all.
Just as Jesus wants us to call the Father, “Father”; We can also call Him (Jesus), “Father”. This is
based on the book of Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The
mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

May God bless you in understanding the little that He has revealed to us in His Bible. Maranatha!
