The history of 'yi sang' is that Yee Sang was

originally created by Loke Ching Fatt,a Cantonese


immigrant from China, in the 1940s.Yi sang is
originate from China and Malaysia.Chinese New
Year is celebrated by the sinosphere across the
world, and while it has its roots in Chinese culture,
the prosperity toss or yee sang is something that is
uniquely Malaysian.Fun fact is that the dish’s
actual name is Lou Hei Yee Sang.

Yi sang is celebrated with large groups of friends


and families getting together in a celebration that
involves traditional food known as 'yi sang'
commonly known as the “prosperity salad”. The
reunion dinner is usually held on Chinese New
Year’s eve, where everyone sit, talk, and enjoy
food together.

Yi sang is usually enjoyed during Chinese New


Year festivities. It is a symbol of abundance,
prosperity, and vigor, and is usually consists of a
variety of colourful ingredients such as carrots,
daikon, cucumber, pickled ginger, pomelo, peanuts,
sesame seeds, pillow crackers, five spice powder,
pepper, oil ,plum sauce and fish, often being raw
salmon is the main ingredient of the dish,
symbolizing abundance throughout the year.

In conclusion,yi sang is one of the many things that


brings families together during Chinese new year.
