Activity #15
Is teaching your first choice as a career? Why?
I never dreamt of taking an education course or aiming to be a teacher as a
career. I never see myself in the future as a teacher because I hate teaching, I hate
children, and I really hate the essence of being a teacher. Another reason is that I really
do not see teaching as a lucrative position. It cannot guarantee my financial security. I
always dreamed to take a premed course and be a doctor someday, but there are many
factors to consider in pursuing that dream profession, so I decided to take education just
for me to be able to attend school this year. I really spent consecutive sleepless nights
crying, figuring things out, and asking the Lord many random questions. I always think
that teaching is hard, and it’s even harder if you’re not dreaming of becoming a teacher
but you’re called to become one. The burden is surely manyfold. I really have a hard
time embracing my chosen course or profession. But as time goes by, after the hurdles
of figuring things out, one thing I realize is that it’s not about the dream that we set for
ourselves, but God’s dream for us. It may be a roller coaster ride, but if that’s what God
wants you to be, He will really sustain you through it. And one of my favorite teachers
during high school always sent me encouragement, and I realized that being a teacher
is not about the money or the degree; it’s all about the knowledge, the values, and the
impacts that you can give to change the lives of the learners. It's not about what you can
get, but what you can give. These are the moments I teach for. These are the moments
that I will live for.
