WEEK 2/ Day 1

Introduction:
Based on Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP)- Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELC). This Module was designed and written which will be
used for Grade 6 pupils to prepare for the New Normal Education

OBJECTIVES

Discuss the importance and methods of enhancing/decorating bamboo, wood, and

metal products..

DISCUSSION

Many products produced and manufactured in the Philippines are in demand in the
local and international markets for their unique and creative designs and high-quality
craftsmanship.
From which province or region are you from? What unique products are known to
be from your hometown?
Products made of bamboo, wood, and metal are in demand both in the local and
international market. With the evolving needs of today’s consumers, many
entrepreneurs are continuously creating and innovating products to cater the demands
of the market.
Some examples of such products include ;

1.woodcraft- desktop organizer, bottle holder, furniture, utensils, wall hooks, wood lamp
2.bamboo products- bamboo lights, bamboo plant box, sofa, wall decorations, bamboo
craft lamp.
3.metal craft- accessories, pen holder, wall hooks, bamboo plant box.
Wood craft and Bamboo Enhancing Techniques.

1. Woodturning- process of using a lathe to make various forms of shapes of wood.

2. Hand carving- considered a woodcraft using a sharp object to create designs on
the wood. Tools such as chip carving knives, gouges, and chisels are used.
3. Pyrography- considered an art using fire or heat to decorate wood or leather.
4. Flocking- technique lines the interior of drawers and boxes with a soft velvety
finish.
5. Inlaying- combines several techniques that involve inserting pieces into a base
object to incorporate new design on the original product.
6. Gilding- considered a decorative technique in which powdered is applied on wood
or other materials to give a thin coating of gold.
7. Staining- use to color wood and give it the illusion of texture. May come in two
varieties. First pigments base stain will color large porches of the wood, while
dye-based stain color small pores of the wood.

8. Painting- considered the simplest of decorating wood since there is a variety of
colors that you can choose from.
Metal Crafts Enhancing Technique

1.Engraving- methods of transferring design on metal using a hardened steel

tool called burin to cut on to the surface of metal.

2.Etching- process used to make designs on metal plates by using acid that
produces corrosive action.

3. Adding metal enhancers- Adding metal media such as metal paints, markets
and antiquing kits that give color to the metal product. Metal paints may be
used with brush or spray.

4.Making image transfer- the first uses a transfer medium called Omni gel and
the other uses a waterslide decal.

5.Texturing and embossing- you will need a hammer, metal stamps, stencils,
and other materials to create imprints on the metal.

6.Using resins- used together with different materials to create wonderful

crafts. Resins are usually made by powder and chemicals that produce a clear
liquid. It should be used rapidly since it hardens and dries up easily.

LETS NOT FORGET

Bamboo, wood, and metal products can be enhanced and decorated their material
ability and salability. Many Philippine products are in demand both in the local and
international markets because of their unique designs and quality craftsmanship.

enhanced more to be attractive to customers and these products are in demand both in the
local and international market. Many entrepreneurs are continuously creating, enhancing,
and innovating to meet the demands of the market.

These are the 3 drawing techniques on how to enhance your products.

A. Sketching – it is a free hand drawing on the
surface of a product. Sketch is a rough representation
of an object, an idea, or a principle.
Importance of Sketching
⮚ It enables someone to use his/her creativity
⮚ Easy to suggest ways to improve in
terms of appearance of the product.
⮚ It enables you to remember the outcome
and design of the product you are planning to do.
⮚ It helps one to decide how big the design is
B. Shading- is the process of marking inside of
an outline to project shadows or degrees
of lightness and darkness.
Importance of Sketching
⮚ It adds beauty of one’s sketch
⮚ It makes the object more realistic.
⮚ It shows the light and shadow of the surface
⮚ It gives best idea to the viewer on what
material is best to use.
C. Outlining- is the process of making marks on
the outer parts of any shape, object or
drawing in which only the contour
of a product is seen.
Importance of Outlining
⮚ It enables the person to define the object
he is portraying.
⮚ It enables the person preparing the design
to define the shape of a product you have in mind.
⮚ It gives the viewer an idea on the real view of the object.

What I Need to Know

Demonstrates resourcefulness and management skills in the use of time, materials, money and effort.

Lesson for Today

Resourcefulness and management skills in the use of time, materials, money and effort.

In planning your project for finished products, you must know how to be resourceful in using time,
materials, money and effort.

A. TIME

- Manage time effectively to achieve goals. There are some tips in managing time:

1. Begin early – Rising early and getting to work ensures that you give yourself and your
work enough time.
2. Schedule your work- Work in time slots. If there is a subject that especially needs your
attention give it more time. A schedule could really help you streamline your work and
make sure that you stick to a realistic timeline.
3. Keep journals- make a list of what needs to be accomplished for a day, week or a
month.
4. Delegate some tasks to others, a good manager delegates. Share responsibilities so
others may learn. You may make a work schedule for all persons involved.

B. MATERIALS

-Material management is a scientific technique, concerned with PLANNING, ORGANIZING

AND CONTROL OF FLOW OF MATERIALS, from their initial purchase to destination.

PURPOSE OF MATERIAL NEEDS OF MATERIAL
MANAGEMENT MANAGEMENT
To gain economy in To have adequate
purchasing materials on hand when
To satisfy the demand needed
during period of replenishment To pay the lowest
To carry reserves stock to possible prices, consistent
avoid stock out with quality
To stabilize fluctuation in To minimize the
consumption inventory investment
To provide reasonable level To operate
of client services efficiently.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF
MATERIAL MANAGEMENT
right price
high turnover
low procurement and storage
cost
continuity of supply

C. MONEY
One of the most important things in running a business is managing money or finances
well. You have to make sure that money is managed effectively:
1. Buy cheap but durable materials for the products.
2. Budget and allocate your funds efficiently.
3. Set your budgets early.
4. Keep accurate records of all transactions as well as receipts.
5. Reserve funds and save for unexpected expenses.
D. EFFORT
Effort refers to the number of labor units required to complete a task, activity or project,
and are often called “man-hours”. Effort is usually expressed as either
- time units (days, hours, minutes)
- a monetary value
-or material needs

In project management, estimating the effort required to complete a task or activity in a

project serves as a foundation to determine the duration of the said tasks, activities and
therefore the project. If e.g.a project must be completed within 3 weeks and each work week is
defined as having 5 work days with 8 hours each, but the effort required for completing all the
tasks exceeds these limitations the consequences are either
- to require people to work overtime
- to put more people to the tasks (which can mean higher cost)
- extending the deadline
- or reprioritizing the tasks and thereby changing the scope of the project.

EFFORT MANAGEMENT refers to the effective and efficient allocation of time and
resources to perform activities. These activities are generally performed in line with a company
strategy and or a project. Effective effort management requires self-discipline, communication,
motivation, energy and focus. As part of the effort management process scheduling and

recording of the performed activities is essential. Depending on the results of activity,
adjustments can be made to further benefit the project and/ or company. These adjustments will
generally be made in the areas of quantity, quality and direction. The main goal of effort
management within organizations is to increase viable and beneficial opportunities for the
company.
