Lesson aims
1. To determine rules about the degree of comparison ;
2. To describe the world around them and make comparisons;
3. To encourage free conversation and develop fluency;
4. To feel more positive when expressing their ideas in English;
5. To practice asking and answering questions;

Assumed knowledge:
 Students already have some knowledge related to this subject from the previous year.
 Students have already worked with online tools.
Anticipated problems:
 Students may not be able to understand some vocabulary items; if the English
explanations are not sufficient, the items will be translated into Romanian

ACTIVITY . Warm-up

Aim: To create a pleasant atmosphere and to relax the students

Procedure: Teacher greets the class. Teacher asks Ss to work on small groups or pairs or they
can work on their own. Teacher shows Ss a message in which the sentences are scrambled.
The message is the motto of the day. The first group or individual student to unscramble the
words and read the sentence aloud correctly wins that round.
Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful
than one with all the fact.

ACTIVITY . Lead-in
Aims:
 To introduce students into the topic
 To identify the adjectives from the song

Procedure: T. divides the class into three teams.


Each team receive a large worksheet, glue and the mingled lyrics of a song. Ss shall
work together and put the lyrics in the right order. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn676-

When they have finished the work, each team shall stick their results in front of the
class and verify if they were right after the original given song.
T. asks Ss if they remember what is an adjective and to identify them in the above song.

ACTIVITY 2 Presentation

Aims:
 To determine rules about the degree of comparison ;
 To review the different types of adjectives

Procedure:
Teacher asks Ss to take a closer look at the adjectives form the song : Best, stronger,
warmer, taller, lighter. Teacher asks Ss if they can identify which is the root/ the main form of
the adjective and to underline the context in which is used in the song.
Teacher announces the aim of the lesson and asks SS to watch a PPP in which they review and
add information to this topic.
Teacher asks Ss to take notes.

After they finish watching the PPP, Teacher asks Ss to solve an interactive game in which they

ACTIVITY 3: Practice

Aim: To use the right form of the adjective

Procedure: Teacher asks Ss to work on pairs. Ss will receive s worksheet in which they need to
write the correct form of the adjective.

In the past the 0 shortest (short) way to Europe from England was by ferry boat across
the English Channel. They also went to Le Havre and Dieppe in the north-west of France.
These ports were 1____________ (far) than Calais and the journey was 2____________
(dangerous), in fact it was one of the 3____________ (bad) in the world because of the bad
weather.
Today there are many different ways to travel to France. People often think the
4____________ (quick) way is by plane, but the Eurostar train through the Channel

of tourists still choose the ferry boat to get to France in the summer because it’s

Teacher asks Ss to solve the exercise in 5 minutes. When they are done, they need to form a
group of four and to check the exercise, in one minute. Teacher asks Ss to read the text and the
groups check.

ACTIVITY 4: Production

Aims
To use the degrees of comparison in their own sentences
To encourage Ss to communicate freely and spontaneously during the activities

Procedure: Teacher asks SS to work on groups of 4/5. Each group has to choose a note from a
bowl ( on the note they have a mean of transport –
CAR/SHIP/TRAIN/BIKE/PLANE/SCOOTER.
Each team receives a list with several adjectives –
FAST/SLOW/SHORT/CHEAP/QUICK/QUIET/SAFE/COMFORTABLE/
UNCOMFORTABLE.
They need to use the adjectives – using the comparative and the superlative - in order to describe
the mean of transport.
They have to make comparison with other means of transport and to express their point of view.
Each team will present the presentation and the others have to guess the mean of transport.

ACTIVITY 6: Homework
Aim: To practice relying on the information given today

The teacher announces Ss the homework and explains the task.


Students have to think at their favorite school subject and less favorite school subject.
Using the comparative and the superlative, they have to explain why they enjoy English, for
example and don’t like Math.
Each student will receive a word search, and they can use the adjective they find there.
