Agreement

It is stated that there must be equal access to all if the ministry intends to implement the digital
textbook system because some children will benefit while others will not because of the logistics
and any related internet infrastructure problems in their area. We agree with this statement. In
our opinion, the inequality gap will widen if the switch to digital education is hastened because
the same resources for learning like a laptop and a high-speed internet connection are not
available to all students. Some students only had a smartphone without any data plan when
digital education was just starting, whereas some have several devices and access to the high-
speed internet. Policymakers have dubbed this digital access gap the moniker "homework gap”
(GoGuardian, 2020). We are unanimous that the internet connection is one of the biggest
obstacles to taking an online course. A continuous, stable internet connection is difficult to get in
smaller cities and villages. Since students do not always have access to the internet, there is a
loss of continuity in education (Priyanka Gautam, 2020). We also had several challenges because
of network issues when taking our lessons online. For example, unable to download files, browse
materials, cannot hear the lecture’s voice, the screen does not appear, or even unable to submit
documents during exams.

The challenges in digital education in school it stated that the system is said to be frequently
jammed. The system needs to be fixed and upgraded to that the data keyed in the system will not
get lost. We agree with this statement. In our opinion, a challenge that both schools and children
must deal with most schools lack the IT infrastructure required to facilitate large-scale eBook
distribution and digital curriculum dissemination (Vishal D, 2015) . While a mature country,
such as the United States, has access to fast internet that can support big data downloads
necessary for digital books, most of the developing world does not. Besides, the system is said to
be frequently jam for example, during the covid-19 pandemic all the school were not allowed to
have entity class therefore students were using google meet to have lecturer class or during
examination. In this situation, we can notice that the website will become lagging due to too
many devices are joining at the same time and it might affect our laptop or pc crashing. Besides
that, sometimes google will have a server problems or system maintenance problems it will
affect to digital education as we know that most of the school are using google classroom, google
meet, google slides, google docs and more for joining classes. (Shivangi D, 2020)

Disagreement

In lecture notes, there is stated that digital textbooks are not durable since maintenance is
difficult and books can be recycled but gadgets cannot be recycled. However, we disagree with
this. The durability of digital textbooks is a point of contention for many critics. From our
perspective, digital textbooks last longer because they are more resistant to damage and
deterioration than printed books made of paper and ink (Breo Box, 2019). As we know, printed
books will inevitably become increasingly crumpled as the number of uses rises no matter how
carefully we use them. We believe that everybody has the experience of accidentally dropping
water on a book or creasing paper notes, rendering the writing on the paper unreadable. On the
contrary, this issue is not present with digital books. Regardless of the duration of usage, digital
books stay the same. This represents better preservation of digital books. On the other hand,
despite what is commonly believed, digital books cannot be recycled, unlike printed books.
However, the sludge produced during the deinking process during the paper recycling process
itself might pollute the environment (Jennifer Wilber, 2022). This means that compared to
printed books, digital textbooks may have less of an impact on the environment.

Besides, if the system works, it will solve the problem of heavy school bags, which has been
raised repeatedly by parents. It is believed that digital textbooks will help students become more
active in class, as opposed to traditional textbooks. However, we disagree with this. Digital
textbooks it can’t really help students become more active in class. Social media and application
are one of the problems it affects students can’t focus when using E-Textbooks. (Tech Thought,
2022) It might pop out some notification or some messages from friend when they are using it, if
the students are not discipline enough there is a very high chances to get affected. E-Textbooks
were designed to replace the tones of paper books that college students put into their bags.
However, digital books are weighty in another way: their storage capacity. Even with a 64GB
iPad, there just isn't enough space to keep every book a student would require. Assuming
students are just using their iPads for books (which they aren't), books that can be up to 10GB
apiece give room for around eight eBooks on one device. A digital textbook can be up to 60%
cheaper than a printed textbook. Furthermore, students have the option of renting a digital
textbook for a semester rather than purchasing lifelong access. This makes digital textbooks a
more appealing choice for students to consider over physical textbooks. However, current trends
indicate that instructors are integrating course content provided by publishers with digital
textbooks, resulting in an extra expense to students. Students may choose not to attend the course
or take fewer courses because of the increased cost, slowing their academic development.
