RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION OF WEIGHT INDICATORS

- The entry into the cable board of cells must be independent ( on one side or the other of the
board ) and directly connected to the terminal board of the device without breaking by bearing
terminal boards or passing through troughs containing other cables.

- Use the " RC " filters on the instrument-driven coils of the remote control switches.

- Avoid inverter, if inevitable, use filters and separate with sheets.

- In case of 230Vac supply, use a 380/230Vac transformer avoiding to use the 380Vac phase and
the neutral.

- The installer of the board is responsible for securing the electrical safety of the indicators.

- It is a good norm to let the indicators always switch on to prevent the formation of condensation.

OPERATION

Weight transmitter with 4 set-point free settable on full range, 4 output potential free relay contacts
(115Vca/30Vdc, 0.5 A).
For weights superiour or equal to the values of the set-points the related contacts will be closed.
The opening of the contacts for decreasing weight will be executed by considering the histeresys
values programmed in the constants.
The WT60 is equipped with 3 inputs to perform the following functions:
- Weight zero-setting
- Print
- Gross / Net weight visualization or Peak function
CALIBRATION : Instrument calibration can be performed by setting some parameters during the
constants programming (THEORETICAL CALIBRATION) or by means of a SAMPLE WEIGHT.

SERIAL PORTS: The instrument is equipped with an RS232 serial output (COM 1) and an
RS422/485 serial output (COM 2).
According to serial ports setting, executable via keyboard, the following connections can be
performed:
- 24 column printer (net/gross weight, peak value, date, time and instrument identification number
can be printed out via external contact).
- remote display for weight transmission.
- PC / PLC : Communication Protocol for PC, ModBus, ProfiBus (only with converter model

STARTING UP THE INSTRUMENT

Turn on the instrument. Supply the instrument, wait for about 5 minutes so that all components
reach a steady temperature.
Make sure that the displayed weight is positive and that increases if one subjects the container to a
force weight. In case the instrument displays a negative value or “no Conn”, ”SEGn InF” , “no-SEGn”
messages, check the load cells connection and the correct load cells installation (loading direction).
Check the correct mechanical installation of the container ( the position of tubes, mounting
accessories, etc. ).

TARE ZERO-SETTING
( ONLY FOR INSTRUMENT ALREADY CALIBRATED IN LABORATORY)

Make sure that the container is empty, during the weight displaying phase press the CONST key
and the “ConSt” message will appear for 2 seconds, while this message is displayed press , the
message “CAL.tE.” will appear. Press , the “CALIb” message will appear, press ENTER and the
display will show “CAL” alternating with the weight reading. Press ZERO to set the tare to zero.
To exit, after setting the tare to zero, press ESC for two times to return to the weight displaying
phase.

Set values :
“CAPAC” ( ); “SEnSI.” ( ); “dIVIS” ( )

INSTRUMENT CALIBRATION CHECK:

Ensure that the container is empty and that the instrument displays zero. Place a significant amount
of products in the container (equal to at least 50% of the maximum quantity to be weighed) and
ensure that the instrument indicates the correct value.
- If there is a significant difference between the displayed value and effective amount ( greater
than 1-2% ) check that this is not caused by a mechanical fault and check the electrical connections
of the cell and the cell loading position.
If the difference is not significant but around 1-2 % proceed with paragraph WEIGHT DISPLAY
CORRECTION VIA KEYBOARD.

CORRECTING DISPLAYED WEIGHT FROM KEYBOARD

If the instrument indicates a weight that is different from actual product weight inside the container,

togheter with “SEnSI.” and “dIVIS” parameters.

“tArA” ( kg , only whole numbers) : Tare ; it is used for setting the tare value when it is not possible
to unload the product to execute a TARE ZERO-SETTING.

“SEnSI.” ( mV/V ) : Load cell sensitivity, it is used for Theoretical instrument Calibration togheter
with “CAPAC” and “dIVIS” parameters.

“dIVIS” (Divisions) : System’s resolution.

“PortA.”,( ) only reading parameter ; capacity : only reading parameter; after

calibration (theoretical or with sample weight) this parameter shows the value memorized in the
“CAPAC” parameter. It changes after a CORRECTING DISPLAYED WEIGHT VIA KEYBOARD.
Take note this value. In case of tamperings or instrument replacement, if it is not possible to unload
the product or using a sample weight to repeat the THEORETICAL CALIBRATION, you can write
the memorized “ PortA. ” value in the “ CAPAC ” parameter.

“ZEro”,( ) only reading parameter ; after the tare zero-setting, the tare value will be
memorized in this parameter.
Take note the value; in case of tamperings or instrument replacement, if it is not possible to unload
the product to reset the tare, you can write the memorized “ ZEro ” value in the “ tArA ” parameter .

“ FILtE.” (Filter to reduce weight oscillations). The higher the value is, the slower is the
weight change.
The change of the Filter parameter determines the display update frequency (see
table below) and then the analog output, relays outputs and the serial
communication.

“Md.FLt.” (weight acquisition frequency). It is also possible to change the weight

acquisition frequency of the “AD7730” converter, the instrument has six different
calculation methods ( A , B , C , D , E , F ).
By selecting MODE A ( default ) the acquisition frequency is 57 Hz. By selecting
from MODE B to F the acquisition frequency changes according to the “Filter”
parameter (see table below).

“Aut. 0” ( autozero threshold). On activation of the instrument, if the weight displayed is

lower that the set value in this section, the value is reset.
“0 - SEt” (reset threshold for small variations).
During weight display press ZERO or close the reset input to reset the display,
only if the quantity displayed is lower than the value set in this constant.

“t. InS. 0” (zero-tracking time). To enable the zero-tracking time set from 0.1 to 5.0
seconds. When the balance is empty, the zero-tracking device maintains the zero
indication within certain limits automatically; it compensates for slow variations of
weight.
To active the zero-tracking set “t InS 0” and “ r InS 0” parameters.
The zero-tracking runs when the weight is different from the zero for a value equal
or lower than divisions set in the “r InS 0” parameter, for a time higher than that set
in the “t InS 0” parameter.
To deactive this function set at least one of two parameters to zero.

“r. InS. 0” (zero-tracking divisions). To enable the zero-tracking time set from 1 to 99.

MONODIRECTIONAL TRANSMISSION OF THE WEIGHT

Used lines = TX , GROUND

Program the instrument number ( “Addr” ) = 0

Readings per second: Baud rate 9600 / 5700 , 5 readings/sec.

The WT will transmit the following ASCII string:

& N x x x x x x L y y y y y y \ ck ck CR

in which :
& = 1 character of string beginning ( 38 ASCII )
N = 1 c. of net weight identification ( 78 ASCII )
x x x x x x = 6 c. of net weight or Peak value (if present)( 48  57 ASCII )
L = 1 c. of gross weight identification ( 76 ASCII )
y y y y y y = 6 c. of gross weight ( 48  57 ASCII )
\ = 1 c. of separation ( 92 ASCII )
ck ck = 2 ASCII checksum characters calculated considering the characters between & and
\ excluded. The checksum value is obtained from the calculation of XOR (or exclusive) of the
8-bit ASCII codes of the characters considered. This obtains a character expressed in
hexadecimals with two digits that can have the values from “0” to “9” and from ”A” to “F”.
CR = 1 c. of string end ( 13 ASCII )

CHECK-SUM CALCULATION

The check-sum is composed of 2 ASCII characters ( ck ck ) obtained using this procedure :

- Consider just UNDERLINED characters.

- Calculate the OR ESCLUSIVO ( XOR ) of the codes of the ASCII characters :

the XOR operation will give as results: 1 when the number of one of the factors is odd, otherwise
the result is 0.

character cod. ASCII decimal cod. ASCII hexadecim. cod. ASCII binary
0 48 30 00110000
1 49 31 00110001
t 116 74 01110100

XOR = 117 75 01110101

- The result of XOR operation is composed of 2 hexadecimal characters ( number from 0 to 9 or

letter from A to F ).

- The check sum is composed of 2 characters representing the result of the XOR operation
(hexadecimal notation - characters " 7 " and " 5 " ).

Check sum calculated: $ 01 t 75 <CR> ( requested weight address 1)

- 32 -
MODBUS PROTOCOL RTU

The MODBUS-RTU protocol enables reading and writing of registers present in LAUMAS
instruments, based on the standard addressing system provided in the reference guide of Modicon
PI-MBUS-300.

Pay special attention to the values sent to the instrument: these must remain within the
ranges specified in the tables on the following pages (and must guarantee correct instrument
operation).

Some data will be written directly into a special memory named EEprom, which can be
written a limited number of times only (100,000).
Therefore avoid writing continuously in these locations.

If not otherwise specified, numerical values are expressed as decimal values in the following
pages (in case of 0x prefix values are expressed as hexadecimal).

DATA FORMAT

- 1 start bit;
- 8 data bits, least significant bit;
- no parity, odd or even parity.
- 2 stop bit in case of no parity (n-8-2)
- 1 stop bit in case of checking parity (O-8-1, E-8-1)

- 33 -
MODBUS – SUPPORTED FUNCTIONS

Among the commands available in the MODBUS-RTU protocol, only the following are used to
manage communication with the instruments. Other commands may not be interpreted correctly and
could generate errors or system shut-downs:

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
03 (0x03) READ HOLDING REGISTER
16 (0x10) PRESET MULTIPLE REGISTERS)

INSTRUMENT RESPONSE TIMES

The length of time that elapses between the end of the QUESTION string to the instrument and the
start of the ANSWER string from the instrument varies between 5 msecs and 20 msecs (max).
The length of time that must elapse between the end of the ANSWER string from the instrument and
the start of the next QUESTION string to the instrument is 0.5 msec (min).
In order to take into consideration the total time of a communication (QUESTION + ANSWER), the
transmission times for the strings, which must be calculated according to the baud rate used, must
be added to these.

Example with 19200bit/sec BAUD RATE:

a) 8 bytes QUERY (88 bits) = 4,6 msec

b) max delay for response = 20 msec
c) 8 bytes RESPONSE (88 bits) = 4,6 msec
d) time before the next query = 0,5 msec

total = 30 mS (33 communications / second)

In general, a longer length of time must be considered to correctly handle the query loop.
Some systems are very slow at correctly handling communication timing, resulting in a
decrease in the number of queries possible in the unit of time.

Where present, the DELAY parameter allows the instrument to respond to the system that is
questioning it with a certain delay. This directly influences the number of queries possible in the unit
of time.

- The serial settings cannot be modified via the serial port itself. Operate manually using the
instrument menus.
- Modifications made will be active after switching off and on again. Modifications such as the
delay time (‘Delay’) and the instrument’s address (‘Address’), however, are active
immediately.
