Design Calculations for R.C.

C work of STP

Project : STP OF CAPACITY 120 KLD AT ESIC HOSPITAL, IMT MANESAR

Client : EE Manesar Division, CPWD, Manesar
EQUALISATION TANK/ TREATED WATER TANK

Assumptions and Inputs

Unit Wt of Water 10 kN/m3

4
Unit Wt of Submerged Soil 8 kN/m Effective Cover 40 mm
Height of the Wall 4.3 m Concrete Grade M M 30
Depth of the water (h) 4.0 m Steel Grade Fe Fe500
Pressure exerted by of saturated soil P 12.4 kN/m3 DESITY OF SOIL 16 kN/m3
Width of the Long wall (b) 4.3 m ANGLE OF REPOSE 0.5234 RADIAN
HEIGHT OF EARTH 4.0 m
SBC at 1.2 m from NGL 80 kN/m2
Clearly pressure exerted by water is much more than pressure exerted by soil outside,
thus the tank has been designed for completely filled condition.(No presence of UG
water upto 6.5m depth)
Check for pressure exerted by water in tank

Width to Depth Ratio = 1.075

The BM at different points on wall can be obtained from Table 3 IS 3370 - Part 4
Max. coefficient for bending moment at the base = 0.0386
Max B.M in vertical direction at the base of wall M1= .0386x P x h3 = -24.70 kNm
Max B.M in Horizontal direction at the Mid Height of wall M2= .0314x P x h3 = -20.10 kNm

2
Permissible direct tensile stress in concrete for M30 (Tc) = 1.5 N/mm
2
Permissible tensile stress in bending for M30 (Tc1) = 2 N/mm

DESIGN OF VERTICAL WALL

FOR NO CRACKING THICKNESS OF WALL REQUIRED AT BOTTOM(CENTRE) (6 x M1/B/Tc1) ½ = 272 mm

THICKNESS OF WALL PROVIDED = 300 mm

Shear (Table 8 IS 3370 - Part 4)

Max SF at MIDPOINT of bottom edge of wall = 0.252 x P x h2 40.32 KN

Max SF at MIDPOINT of the vertical edge of the wall = 0.267 x P x h2 =44.28 kN

The SF in the wall on the vertical edge will cause tension in the adjacent wall,

Check for criterion for safe design ( MIDDLE OF BOTTOM EDGE)
