SwingarmPivotLubrication
• Removetheswingarmbearing(seeSwingarmBearing
RemovalintheSuspensionchapter).
• Supplygreasetotheneedlebearingsandgreaseseals
inaccordancewiththePeriodicMaintenancechart.

SteeringSystem
SteeringPlayInspection
• Raisethefrontwheeloffthegroundwithjack(seeFront
WheelRemovalintheWheels/Tireschapter).
• Withthefrontwheelpointingstraightahead,alternately
tapeachendofthehandlebar.Thefrontwheelshould
swingfullyleftandrightfromtheforceofgravityuntilthe
forkhitsthestop.
Ifthewheelbindsorcatchesbeforethestop,thesteering
istootight.
• Feelforsteeringloosenessbypushingandpullingthe
forks.
Ifyoufeellooseness,thesteeringistooloose.

NOTE
○Thecablesandwiringwillhavesomeeffectonthemo-
tionoftheforkwhichmustbetakenintoaccount.
○Besurethewiresandcablesareproperlyrouted.
○Thebearingsmustbeingoodconditionandproperly
lubricatedinorderforanytesttobevalid.

SteeringPlayAdjustment
• Loosen:
FrontForkClampBolts(lower)(bothsides)
StemHeadBolt[A]
• Adjustthesteering.
Ifthesteeringistooloose,tightenthesteeringstemnut
afractionofaturnusingthespecialtool[B].
Ifthesteeringistootight,loosenthestemnutafraction
ofaturn.
SpecialTool-SteeringStemNutWrench:57001-1100

NOTE
○Turnthestemnut1/8turnatatimemaximum.
• Tighten:
Torque-SteeringStemHeadBolt:44N·m(4.5kgf·m,32
ft·lb)
FrontForkClampBolts(lower):30N·m(3.1kgf·m,
22ft·lb)
• Checkthesteeringagain.
Ifthesteeringisstilltootightortooloose,repeatthead-
justment.
