Lesson Idea Name: Create Your Own Adobe Express Lesson

Grade Level/Content Area: 1st grade/ Add too and Take- Away From
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE1.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word
problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and
comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a
symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:  What would you like students to know and be
Empowered Learner – 1.1.a. Students articulate able to do by the end of this lesson: By the end
and set personal learning goals, develop strategies of this lesson, students should be able to create
leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect their own word problem using adobe express,
on the learning process itself to improve learning
and have a classmate solve it using their video.
outcomes.
Digital Citizen – 1.2. Students recognize the
rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living,
learning, and working in an interconnected digital
world, and they act and model in ways that are safe,
legal, and ethical.

Creative Communicator – 1.6. Students

communicate clearly and express themselves
creatively for a variety of purposes using the
platforms, tools, styles, formats, and digital media
appropriate to their goals.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

After reviewing my own personal Adobe Express, students will be able to create a math problem of
their choice using the math skills we reviewed as a class and have their classmates solve them.

Selected Instructional Software Tool: Adobe Express

Description of Software: Adobe Express is an online tool that can enhance students' learning
because of its accessibility. Adobe allows you to add video and audio to each lesson you create with
options to link extension content for further review
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
This activity follows my lesson of using Adobe Express in a mathematical setting, to convey
problems and problem types following our 1st grade standard. I will make students aware of the
goals of creating a well thought our math problem on their own by explaining the process that
went into my Adobe Express, and how we should be using it as a guideline. Students will be using
their given district computer to create their own math video in class. As the teacher, I will go
around the room to see if students need further help using this software and checking the
problem that they have created for another classmate to solve. I will provide feedback to students
by seeing if they accurately created a problem within our standard guideline, and review the video
that they have created. I will conclude this lesson by showing and explaining to students how
useful technology can be in math, and play all of the student videos on our Smart Board.
Managing student learning:
Since this is a student-led activity, this gives students the chance to be active learners in the
classroom because of the accessibility that Adobe offers to them. After we have completed my
lesson being passive learners, I will shift gears to active learners by showing how I created my
lesson, and what theirs should look like as they start on their own. Students will also create a
rough draft on paper of what ideas they want to include on their lesson, and then I will give them
the OK to start finalizing it on Adobe Express.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
The Universal Design for Learning principle that my lesson is focused on is Multiple Means of
Engagement, as we go from Passive learners to Active learns when creating our own Adobe lesson.
This tool allows students to record themselves or just their voice, as well as adding text descriptions
when going through each template slide which is why it can reach every accessibility need of my
students. To make sure students are meeting the multiple means of engagement from our UDL
principle, they will get the time in class to focus on this activity and create something that is there,
and came from their own personal ideas of math problems we would see in our given standard, With
all these accessibility options, students are able to engage, and learn in a way that is best beneficial
for meeting their learning goals inside of my classroom.

Reflection: After creating my lesson plan, I feel students will have a great impact inside of my
classroom because each of their voices and ideas are being heard in a different style that will make
them feel scene and welcomed inside of my classroom. I look forward to implementing the idea of
becoming the teacher inside of the room because they are the one’s coming up with a word
problem, and giving them to other students. I know they will love this implementation of this
because it gives them a purpose to further their own learner capabilities and achieve them in a way
where other students can benefit from it.
