ADJECTIVE
1. DEFINITION :
Adjective are the words that describe or modify other words, making your writing
or speaking much more specific and a whole lot more interesting.
These words are like small, blue and sharp are some examples of adjective.
In other words, ”An adjective are those words which are used to express some quality
number or quantity of a subject.e.g Good, Bad, etc.”

2. USES OF ADJECTIVE:
i. An adjective which is used with a noun is known as attributive use.. E.g
Beautiful girl, nice book, Tall tree, etc.
ii. An adjective which is used after verb or after an object is known as
predictive use. E.g She is afraid. She is lame. He is alive, Etc.

3. DEGREES OF ADJECTIVE:

MANY OBJECT EXPRESS THE QUALITY OF AN OBJET IN THREE


IMPORTANT WAYS.
There are three degrees of adjective which are given below:
i. Positive degree.
ii. Comparative degree.
iii. Superlative degree.
 Positive degree:
 The positive degree shows the simple quality of an object without
reference to the other.
 For example: This is a beautiful flower.
He is a strong man.
Beautiful and strong are the positive degree.
 Comparative Degree:
 The comparative degree shows compare between 2 persons or
things are same Class.
 For example: Abdul Hannan is a cleverer than Saleem.
Ashraf is braver than Aslam.
Cleverer and braver are the comparative degree.
 Superlative Degree :
 The superlative degree shows the comparison between more than two
persons or things of the same class.
 For example: Ali is tallest than Irfan.
This painting is most attractive than the other sketch.

4. TYPES OF ADJECTIVE :

THERE ARE NINE TYPES OF ADJECTIVE WHICH ARE GIVEN

1. Descriptive Adjectives.
2. Quantitative Adjectives.
3. Proper Adjectives.
4. Demonstrative Adjectives.
5. Possessive Adjectives.
6. Interrogative Adjectives.
7. Indefinite Adjectives.
8. Articles.
9. Compound Adjectives.

 DESCRIPTIVE ADJECTIVE :

DEFINITION:

 A descriptive adjective is a word which describes
noun and pronouns.

 EXAMPLE :-

I am hungry.

I saw a flying sparrow.

 QUANTITATIVE ADJECTIVES:

Definition:

A quantitative adjective provides information about


the quantity of the nouns/ pronouns.

 Examples:

I have 20 rupees in my wallet.

They have five balls.

 Proper Adjectives:

Definition:

Proper adjectives are the adjective used for of proper
nouns.

Examples:

Pakistan is very strong country.

I love McDonald’s big mac chicken.

 Demonstrative Adjectives:-

Definition:

Demonstrative adjectives directly refer to something


or someone.

Examples:

This book is mine.

Those flowers are heavenly.

 Possessive Adjectives:

Definition:

A possessive adjective indicates possession or
ownership.

 Examples:

My house is near the national park.

Our job is almost done.

 Interrogative Adjective:-

An interrogative adjectives asks a question.

Examples:

what is your name?

whose car is this ?

 Indefinite Adjectives :

Definition

An indefinite adjective describes or modifies a noun


unspecifically.

Examples:

I gave some candy to my cousin.

I want a few moments with my friends.

 Articles :

Definition :

Articles also modify the nouns. so, articles are also


adjectives.articles determine the specification of nouns.

Examples:

A cat is always afraid of water.

An electronic product should always be handled with


care.

 Compound Adjectives:

Definition:

When compound nouns/ combined words modify other


nouns,they become a compound adjective.

Examples:

I have a broken-down sofa.

I saw a six-foot long snake.

5. Uses in sentence :

 This cloth is inferior to that.

 All the rich people.

 He ate much bread.

 The future is unknown to all.
