1. SINGAPORE CHANGI AIRPORT Architects: SAFDIE Architects Year : 2006
Jewel weaves together an
experience of nature and the marketplace, dramatically asserting the idea of the airport as an uplifting and vibrant urban center, engaging travelers, visitors and residents, and echoing Singapore’s reputation as ‘The City in the Garden’. 2. TWA FLIGHT CENTER Architects: Eero Saarinen And associates Year : 1962
Built in the early days of airline travel,
the TWA Terminal is a concrete symbol of the rapid technological transformations which were fueled by the outset of the Second World War. Eero Saarinen sought to capture the sensation of flight in all aspects of the building, from a fluid and open interior, to the wing-like concrete shell of the roof. At TWA’s behest, Saarinen designed more than a functional terminal; he designed a monument to the airline and to aviation itself. 3. ISTANBUL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Architects: Grimshaw Year: 2018
This grand gateway to Istanbul and
Turkey is a modern, highly efficient airport that captures the rich cultural influences of the historic city. The design draws on the architectural character of Istanbul – a city rich with colour, pattern and history since its Byzantine origins – and includes vaulted ceilings pierced with skylights that draw in diffuse daylight and create an open, lofty volume with clear lines of sight. Focused beams of sunlight illuminate key areas in the terminal, such as check-in, security, customs and retail areas.
