The study was constructed to determine the functionality of the

improvised motorcycle security system. To operate the finger-print scanner and
the module it needs to acquire the following steps, register his/ her finger print
the finger print module. The ignition of the motorcycle needs the authentication
of the owner or any registered personnel in the program of the circuit module.
Using the finger print the motorcycle enhance the security system that avoid the
thieves and this way the rider would also safe from harm or danger. The study
that conducted help the owner to secure their motorcycle. Now a day’s thieves
are now being knowledgeable in stealing motorcycle, they are using new
techniques so that the owner or any person around the motorcycle will not
suspect them. That they are stealing the motorcycle so finger print help to
advance the motorcycle security system. As discuss above to start motorcycle
ignition it needs the authentication of the registered owner or person in the
circuit module of the finger print. The study was only for those motorcycle that
have key and u-box. The objectives of the study are design and construct a
finger print system for motorcycle and test the functionality of the improvised
motorcycle security system. The project name “Improvised Motorcycle Security

INTRODUCTION

In today's world, facilities are expanding, but with that expansion comes an

increase in theft, robbery, and other motorcycle-related difficulties. We are

building a new manner of automobile interlocking system and vehicle security

controlling system just to boost the security of our motorcycle. In our project, we

use finger prints, which are one of the most unique features of our bodies. Every

human on the planet had a unique fingerprint. This would assist us in improving

the motorcycle's security. The motorcycle would be able to tell who the owners

are and who is attempting to force open the vehicle. The growing number of

automobile theft instances necessitates an increase in security. This type of

feature is available in biometrics to increase the motorcycle's security level.

Motorcycles are the common means of transportation for the Filipino

people. One of its essential part are ignition switch and U-box which the ignition

switch allows to turn on and off the engine and also u-box serves as a storage for

some tools, motorcycle papers, important things or documents and for the

gasoline tank. Both of them are commonly controlled by a key. However,

nowadays, there are already upgraded system that allows to control the ignition

switch and U-box with keyless system. The fingerprint is one of the hardest

information to copy because people have different fingerprint (Saxena, et.al,

1985). On the contrary, there might be a chance that the ignition switch and Ubox

cannot be operate without the key in the cylinder. With this, it can only cause
2

hassle, wherein you need to use key to ignite and to open the ubox of

motorcycle.

Today more than ever, there are instances wherein the safety and

efficiency of key-driven motorcycle has been tested and measured such as the

key might break or stiff (Locksmith, 2018). In using a key, there will be a

possibility that it could be stolen or duplicated by other people that provides them

an opportunity to access the ignition switch and U-box. At the same time, it is

very inconvenient to stop the engine of the motor just to use its key in opening

the U-box (Anuta, 2015).

The stated problem had prompted the researcher to conceptualize the

Improvised Motorcycle Security System. The project study primarily focused on

the design and construction of the device and to test its functionality. The

researcher envisions to provide the motorcycle owners/users a safe and

convenient way in igniting and opening the U-box while enjoying its efficient

operation. This project “Improvised Motorcycle Security System” is an efficient

solution to battle and eliminating the keys in conventional method of starting the

motorcycle and to provide enough security in opening the U-box that needs no

manual operation which is powered by an electronic device named Biometric

system.

Objectives of the Study

The general objective of this research was to develop a strong security

system in motorcycle to avoid stealing/carnapping motorcycle.

3

Specifically, this research aimed to:

1. Design and construct the Improvised Motorcycle Security System;

2. Test the functionality of the Improvised Motorcycle Security System

Significance of the Study

The researcher believed that the study would help to secure the security

system of the motorcycle and to have a better and easy access to the U-box.

Also lessen the hassle and motorcycle theft crime rate of the place because this

security system. The rider or the owner of the motorcycle would be the

beneficiary of the research.

Therefore, it was also a proposed solution to the problem by having a

strong security system.

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The scope of this project study was delimited to the design and

construction of the Improvised Motorcycle Security System particularly in the MIO

I 125cc motorcycle. This device automatically operates using a biometric system.

The researcher tests the functionality of the device Improvised Motorcycle

Security System

This project would evaluate by the ten (10) respondents who are the

owner of motorcycle with keyless such as Yamaha NMAX and Honda Click. In

gathering data, the researcher asks permission to those motorcycle owners at

Barangay Batasan prior to conduct of the study.

4

The study used evaluation survey questionnaire. The questionnaire aimed

to determines the functionality of the improvised motorcycle security system. It

would face validated by panel experts who relates the relates the study. The data

would be collected and analyzed statistically. The data analyzed with the use of

descripted statistic such as frequency count and weighted means.

Operational Definition of Terms

The researcher used terminologies to facilitate a better understanding of

this study. The following terminologies are defined as follows:

Biometric – used for identification and access control or identifying individuals.

Cable Tie – holding the power lock actuator and wires.

Motorcycle U-Box – storage of tools, battery and papers/document of

motorcycle

Power-Lock – is an electric lock, allow to open the motorcycle u-box by pressing

a button or flipping a switch or biometric.

Throttle Cable – is made of twisted stands of steel. The outer housing is also

made of flexible steel, usually wound in a helix.

Wire – conduct electricity and provide a low-resistance path for electricity to flow

through.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter presents some literature that was relevant with the research.

It also discusses about previous researches that are related to this study.

Improvised motorcycle security system the study would focus to protect the

motorcycle from the thief. This would enhance the security of the motorcycle. The

motorcycle would only start or turn on by use of the register finger print in the

system. The motorcycle would not turn on or start the ignition, if the finger print is

not register. The whole system would be used to secure the motorcycle.

Security system has been great concern in the world nowadays, especially

to the motorcycle. Using fingerprint and power lock actuator it enhanced the

security and to safety the motorcycle and also the rider itself. The authentication

of the finger print, of the owner and registered person can only use the

motorcycle. The K202 finger print module was program to authenticate the

person who are registered in the module. The fingerprint was replacing to the

ignition switch of the motorcycle. The power-lock system which are capable of

only locking and unlocking the doors in the vehicle. Nearly every car model today

offers this feature as at least optional equipment. It is also common on modern

cars for the locks to activate automatically when the car is put into gear or

reaches a certain speed. However, in this study the power-lock will work together

with the biometric in unlocking and locking the motorcycle’s Ubox. The power

lock will act as the switch and will be controlled by the biometric. In the article

named Kelly Blue Book (2013), it presents that there are numerous benefits
6

associated with power lock systems. It helps to automatically lock the vehicle

doors and secure it. which will be monitored by an electronic control such as

control modules.

The improvised motorcycle security system uses the inbuilt STM8

microcontroller, the Grow K202+R503 DC12V Low Power Consumption Ring

Fingerprint Access Control Board is an all-in-one control board. The fingerprint

access control system can use this module as a stand-alone system. The board

has an integrated relay that the microcontroller activates when the fingerprint is

detected. A multiturn potentiometer can be used to control the relay's activation

time, which can be adjusted from 0.5 to 13 seconds. Also, a speaker wires to

connect in the starter in able to function the system.

Dinesh K. et al (2008), In today's world, a vehicle anti-theft device is

critical. For public transportation vehicles, vehicle safety is important. The

system's first layer of security is fingerprint recognition, which determines which

locks are opened. A finger print module is used to match fingerprints. Agarwal A.

et al (2014), From the past to the present, whether it be in relation to human life

or material objects, protection and security has always been a top priority. With

the aid of biometrics, we are creating a system that will provide more protection

to two-wheeler systems in this project. Since passwords are still the most

vulnerable part of many critical security systems, there is a drive from many

directions to supplement passwords with less vulnerable security steps. While

pushing it has some benefits, particularly in environments where security is a

concern, it has yet to replace passwords. Passwords are also used by the vast
7

majority of computer users on a daily basis. Studies that empirically analyze

patterns of password formation and use remain critical in the evaluation of

security policies, since the security of passwords is heavily reliant on user

actions.

Hidayanti F. et al (2020), Using an Arduino Uno microcontroller, create a

motorcycle security system with a fingerprint sensor. Most motorcycle security

systems only use an ignition to start the motorcycle. As a result, criminals who

want to steal a motorcycle while it is parked can easily harm it. A fingerprint

sensor is used to build a motorcycle security device that improves security on

two wheeled motorcycles.

According to Kiran CS (2019), Develop a biometric-based vehicle

protection system that is appropriate. One of the most sophisticated security

technologies is the anti-theft fingerprint security system. Methods: The bike is

equipped with a fingerprint authentication system. Findings: A novel concept has

been proposed in this study to improve the protection system for vehicles by

using fingerprint sensors.

Khadasane V. et al (2016) The aim of the project is to develop a two-

wheeler authentication system based on the most popular biometrics, which are

fingerprints. It is designed to protect the two-wheeler from theft. The fingerprint

system replaces the two-self-start wheeler's system. Certain variables, such as

distinctive patterns, reference points, and so on, are used to recognize a

fingerprint. The project includes the AT Mega 328 AVR microcontroller, R305

fingerprint scanner module, Fuel sensor, and GSM module. The fingerprint
8

Module R305 can store 256 fingerprints in its memory. As soon as the fingerprint

module receives the fingerprint, it communicates with the microcontroller and

checks to see whether the fingerprint is already in the module database.

Gil Y. et al, (2003) Biometric-based systems are capable of addressing a

wide range of security issues. Biometrics has been studied and used for decades

as a means of protecting privacy and the protection of confidential information.

One of the most commonly used biometrics is the fingerprint. Until now, a range

of fingerprint authentication methods have been proposed.

According to Trader J. (2014) When your car is equipped with a fingerprint

biometric identification device, you must have the correct fingerprint in order to

start it. To steal your bike, the thief will have to do a lot of research, and they are

unlikely to have the fingerprint technology required to imitate your fingerprint.

Wimberly, H. et al (2011) Choosing a system's security architecture and

policies is a difficult job that must be driven by knowledge of user behavior. We

test the hypothesis that adding noticeable security features to a system improves

user trust in the system's security, causing users to spend less time worrying

about other security concerns. In our experiment, each of the 96 volunteers

produced two accounts, one with only a password and the other with both a

password and a fingerprint reader. On average, our findings strongly support our

hypothesis. Users developed passwords that would take one three-thousandth

as long to crack while using the fingerprint reader, theoretically negating the

benefit of two factor authentication.

9

Carse, Maynard Gel F, et al (2019) The Philippines is one of the

Southeast Asian countries with a large motorcycle population (Reyes, 2017). In

nearly every street, every corner, every road—big or tiny, for sure, there is a

motorbike rider just speeding his way and avoiding Philippines ‘fatal’ traffic

scenario. As a result of their quick surge in numbers, motorcycles or motorbikes

have recently been the common target of thieves (Velasquez, 2014). The system

will aid many motorcycle users to secure and feel comfortable without turning

back to their motorcycle due of its security features and anti-thief fingerprint-

enabled ignition feature. By executing this project, it clearly indicates that a range

of security may be added to the motorcycle.

utilized to determine a motorcycle owner's suitability, and it is read by an

Arduino, which acts as a microprocessor. The electrical components that

demand a big voltage and current are then controlled by two-channel relay

modules as electronic switches, which then link to the VCC contact on the

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusions and

recommendation of the study.

Summary

The project study entitled “Improvised Motorcycle Security System” aimed

to design and construct a device that would greatly help people, specifically the

rider or the owner of the motorcycle to enhance the security of their motorcycle.

With the device, users could use the motorcycle automatically by means of

fingerprint detection with ease.

The construction of the device took 4 weeks with the use of supplies and

materials that are available locally. In order for the device to operate, it needs to

registered the fingerprint. The device was tested and rated by the respondents

through answering a survey questionnaire to justify the functionality of the

device. The presented result had a general mean of 4.83 which was described

as “Highly Functional”. The question that got the highest score was 5.00 which all

of the 10 respondents agree that the research was highly function. There was 1
29

question that got the lowest score, question number 3 weighted mean was 4.60

however these items are still described as highly functional.

Conclusions

Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the device made

“Improvised Motorcycle Security System” was highly functional with the overall

rating of 4.83. It shows that the device was functional to detect a thief because

the motorcycle can’t function without the registered finger print. The respondents

of the survey agreed that the research was highly functional.

Recommendation

Based on the observation during the conduct of the study and on the

findings and conclusions, the researcher presented the following

recommendations:

1. Use RFID switching

2. Add headlock mechanism

3. Use the ignition system as cut off instead of the starting system.
