1.0 Executive Summary

This report is an analysis of employer’s expectations of graduate employees and some of key

recommendations for ACMI University to ensure that the school will produce graduates with

the best chance of employment. The report will discuss four main factor which contributes to

satisfy employer’s expectations in terms of recruitment of new graduate employees – firstly,

soft skills; secondly, problem solving skills; next, professional maturity and finally, genetic

skills. The report then gives some key recommendation for ACMI University to ensure the

new graduate employees will get better chance of employability. The research applies existing

theories and research to find out possible solution. The conclusion that ACMI university should

project more training programs and establish platform to business and graduate employees

can exchange information with each other to help graduate students have more understanding

about employee’s perception and job description in organization.

2.0 Introduction

This paper will discuss employer perceptions of graduate students. It argues that

uncontrollable factors - in terms of external and internal organizational elements - affect the

evaluation of management performance. Since controllability levels can differ in each situation,

the impact on measures could be different too. There is not much debate on the value of

performance management, the effectiveness of the process or how organizations can use it to

build a high-performance workforce. However, it is a major concern for many organizations.

Decentralization is the dispersion of decision-making authority among individuals at lower levels

of the organization. Decentralization is getting broader and more common due to the high

complexity of organizations. In such a situation, managerial accounting is required to control

these kinds of decentralized organisations. To measure performance, responsibility accounting is

employed in many organisations. However, some key concepts in responsibility accounting lead

to various related problems, and some dysfunctional performance measurement can be found

3.0 Discussion

There are two main finding from the research that soft skills, problem solving, professional

maturity is related with employer perceptions in terms of choosing right candidate for firms. The

authors also noticed that generic skills like teamwork, time management and detailed are also

important in gaining weight to employers. (Chhinzer, N., & Russo, A. M. , 2017)

 Professional maturity (high quality of work, interest, initiative, etc.) is play important

key in assisting employers in terms of evaluating graduate student employability. As a

result, professional maturity is considered as a core employability factor and should be

conduct more research on employability.

 Soft skills such as interpersonal skills, verbal communication skills and written

communication skills and problem-solving such as leadership skills, creativity and

adaptability are 2 main influencing factors that gain attention from employers.

Based on.. research, it is clearly shown that professional maturity is play leading role in

evaluating graduate student employability

There are some key recommendations for ACMI university in terms of boosting their

students for possible chances of employability in the future:

 Organizing training programs for undergraduate and graduate students to encourage them

gain more experience and improve their soft and generic skills. Moreover, the university should

establish the professional consulting network between organization and students to they can

connect and exchange information of job description. It also helps undergraduate students get

better idea about business culture and insight of organization

 Creating an online platform where companies or organization can post job opportunities

(internship and apprenticeship), company profiles, skills they require, how to apply and so on.

Besides, university also arrange time to graduate students can visit company once a year to they

know about the company’s environment and the way people work.

 University should open special lectures about conflict resolution, problem solving,

negotiation, team building, interpersonal skills and communication to give graduate students a

great foundation working effectively in groups, and mange efficiently their careers.

6.0 Appendix

There are some common skills that employers expect for their new employees such as

general knowledge, personality, computer skills, communication skills, language skills, and

practical experience. Employers consider education degree or background after those six factors.

Based on the research, it is shown that there is a gap between job expectation of undergraduates

and recruiter expectations. (Weligamage, S., & Siengthai, S, 2003)

Time management: the ability to allocate time effectively for several tasks at once to meet

multiple deadlines.

Self-understanding: the ability to know their own strengths and weakness

Learning Skills: the ability to learn actively and effectively such as critical thinking, organizing

information.

Teamwork Skills: the ability to understand dynamics and to work effectively which makes team

successful.

Leadership skills: the ability to influence, motivate and lead others as a leader or team members

Problem solving skills: the ability to identify, determine possible solutions to sort out the

problems perfectly.

Working with Diversity: the ability to tolerate and respect different points of view of people who

are from different cultures and backgrounds.
