DIVIDES SIMPLE FRACTIONS AND MIXED FRACTIONS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

To divide simple fraction and mixed number

1. write the number sentence.


2. change the mixed number into improper fraction
3. get the reciprocal of the divisor then proceed to
multiplication of fractions.
4. write the product of the numerators over the product of the
denominators
5. reduce the fractions to lowest terms if needed.

In dividing a fraction by a whole number:

1. multiply the fraction (the dividend) by the reciprocal of the


whole number (divisor).
2. reduce answer to lowest term when necessary.
3. reciprocal is the multiplicative inverse of a number.
4. when multiplied to the number, the product is 1.

In dividing a mixed number by another mixed number:

6. multiply the dividend by the reciprocal of the divisor.
7. reduce the quotient to its lowest term.
