Assignment 1

A. Define literature - Literature means to me a lot of things, one of them is the translation of
emotions, thoughts, ideas and dreams and, basically, everything which makes me feel human,
real, and, that I am indeed living.

B. Literature teaches us to look at life from a different perspective, gives us a reason to think in a
different manner and understand our surroundings better , where our thoughts are not confined to
the four walls but where our thoughts get wings to create beautiful art through imagination.
Imagination has no bounds, we have the liberty of our imagination and we can portray those by
our colorful and artistic mind. Poetry teaches us in every sphere whether it is good times or
negative times in life, the words of poetry breathe and soothe as a balm to our mind, soul and
heart.

C. When we say literature, it is a combination of poetry, short stories, novels, epics, dramas etc.
Authors and writers of the literary pieces have often written these items out of their real life
experiences or what they have heard from others of incidents that occurred in the past. Most of
the poets, for example William Blake and Wordsworth have written poems on their real life
experiences and as well as their imagination.

D. Thus, when literature or art is created it reflects culture of a society. The writers reflect their
culture through their literary works. Read a novel, and then you'll be able to recognize the
differences in cultures. They are reflected even by the use of words.

preserves the values of different eras, the stylistic traits of different periods, the typical concerns
of different ages, and changes in the language in which a people's literature is written.

3. The Filipinos had greater political participation and more economic gains. In 1820 only the
Philippines have improved in civilization, and wealth. Many schools were built. They taught
them how to read, write, and speak in English.

writings which if repeatedly taught to the new generation, assures the preservation of their
