with Emphasis on Job Search

AN INTERVENTION PROPOSAL FOR STUDENT AT RISK

(STAR)

I. APPROACH

Rationale
The STAR or Students at Risk are those students who have academic deficiencies
in a given period of their academic journey. These students have struggled in achieving
the expected course requirements. In order to address these weaknesses, intervention or
enhancement programs are crafted to bridge the gap.

As per OPM (Operational Procedure Manual), the Enhancement/Intervention

Programs are among the institution’s solutions designed to address the academic
weaknesses in the teaching-learning process. It is a kind of a bridging activity to resolve
the gap between the present situation and what is to be attained vis-à-vis the established
standards based on CHED’s CMOs and the institutional strategic plan.

Moreover, the Intervention Program is an activity to be conducted as a result of the

analysis from the students' course evaluation; this aims to improve the academic
deficiencies for them to be prepared in their endeavor outside the university. Also, it seeks
the students to gain confidence as they undertake the challenges in today's time.

Objectives
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

• Write an application letter with appropriate components and format.

• Create a resume applying the rules and guidelines.
• Demonstrate professionalism and improvement of speaking skills in a mock job
interview.
• Present onself using PowerPoint presentation with application of the rules and
guidelines.

By the end of the program, it is expected that students beneficiary will pass the
intervention posttest assessment and the currectly enrolled professional courses.

III. LEARNING

The findings in the previous evaluation of Intervention Program shows a noticeable

increase of 6.15 in posttest scores. From 79.14 during the pretest, it increased to 85.29 in
the posttest. This difference is attributed to the lecture ad practice sets that were done in
between the pretest and posttest. Furthermore, a total of 7/7 (100%) student beneficiaries
passed the intervention post assessment and currently enrolled professional courses.

IV. INTEGRATION
The results of the previous interventation program is a clear manifestation that the
students are progressing since target KPI 2.3.2. and 2.3.3 were met. Thus, the following
recommendations were made which will be integrated in this new intervention program.

• Schedule virtual intervention program at students’ convenience particularly

in terms of internet and electricity.

• Supply personally-recorded discussions to substitute virtual lecture

whenever interruptions occur, as it is preferable for the beneficiaries to
watch their teacher speaking than somebody else whom they are not
acquainted with.

• Extend duration of pretest and posttest into two or three hours since internet
is unstable.
