PUV Modernization Program

Opening arguments:

The programs aim is to improve the transportation system especially on jeepneys, buses, and other
public utility vehicles. For a better, safer, more comfortable, and environmentally-friendly alternatives
over many years to come.

Aren’t we always choosing the most safer, efficient, and eco-friendly vehicles. Keeping the old vehicles
might lead to accidents we could have prevented but didn’t just because of people don’t want
something new.

What about the jeepney drivers?

Operators and drivers can apply for a new franchise but as a part of transport cooperatives. Forming
cooperatives can better for the boundaries are no longer needed said LTFRB NCR regional director. It
also benefits them for they are considered regular employees of the corporation meaning they are
entitled to a regular salary and they are also entitled to social legislative benefits such as SSS, Pag-ibig,
and PhilHealth , said regional director Zona Tamayo. Only the cooperation of the driver and operators
that are needed for it to start.

What about the cost of the modernized?

It is said that the modern jeepneys would cost around 1.4 million to 1.6. it is said that by forming
cooperatives this will help on acquiring loans on banks. And there are many affordable buses from
500,000 to 800,000 .

If we are talking about how environmental and economical benefits. Environmentally it lessens the air
pollution which we are contributing from using old jeepneys that uses diesel and it could help
economically when improving the PUVs can provide the country more jobs. Since the the jeepney
modernization potentially raises the need for skilled drivers and operators. With newer models needed
there is also higher demand for workers and laborers in vehicle manufacturing.

Approving the program doesn’t mean the government only thought of how the economy could rise but
are seeing a future with nice transportation system and a clean more organized groups with efficient
operations. That will highly impact on the safety and secureness of the Filipino commuters.
Banning of OFWs on the following countries (Iraq and Kuwait)

We saw that abuses and mistreatments never ever disappeared and saw that it is unfair to send more
OFWs to a country you will know could never promise the safety of our fellow Filipinos

Why the Middle East and not any country?

Since the middle east has the highest workers roughly 1.77 million. Of these are female workers
comprised of larger portion making up 59.6 percent or 1.06 million. It has the countries where high
paying, relatively low skill jobs were abundant. It is also the country which has many abuses being
reported.
