E. Abstraction Unlocking of words:


( 45 minutes)
Hazard- it is the potential for harm or adverse effect on an employee's
health. Anything which may cause injury or ill to anyone at or near a
workplace is a hazard.
Risk- it is the likelihood that a hazard will cause injury or ill health to anyone
at or near a workplace. The level of risk increases with the severity of the
hazard and the duration and frequency of exposure

Exposure – it occurs when a person comes into contact with a hazard.

TYPES OF HAZARDS:

1. Physical Hazards –it includes floors, stairs, work platforms, steps, ladders,
fire, falling objects, slippery surfaces, manual handling (lifting, pushing,
pulling),excessive loud and prolonged noise, vibration, heat and cold,
radiation, poor lighting, ventilation, and air quality.

2. Mechanical and/or electrical hazards - these includes electricity,


machinery, equipment, pressure vessels, dangerous goods, forklifts, cranes
and hoists.

3. Chemical hazard - It includes chemical substances such as acids or poisons


and those that could lead to fire or explosions, like pesticides, herbicides,
cleaning agents, dusts, and fumes from various processes such as
welding.

4. Biological hazards – this includes bacteria, viruses, molds, mildew, insects,


vermin and animals.

5. Psychosocial environment- this refers to a work place stressor arising


from a variety of sources.
Example, work-related stress, bullying and harassment, lone and remote
place, violence in the workplace, fatigue, alcohol and drug use.

Generalization:

In order to be safe in working in the farm we must keep in mind the safety first
to avoid the occurrence of emergencies.

ACTIVITY 2.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Choose two (1) farm activities in which you are to wear the proper
PPE.
2. Demonstrate the following farm activities through action or body
language.
3. After performing the specific farm activities, remove the PPE from
your body and explain the reasons why you need to wear that
particular PPE when performing that particular task.
4. Submit your answer to the teacher.
