1 NUMERICAL METHODS IN MEDICINE Presentation

2 Content
3 A numerical method is an approximate computer method for solving a mathematical problem which
often has no analytical solution.

Numerical Analysis is the Mathematics branch responsible for designing effective ways to find numerical
solutions to complex Mathematical problems. Most Mathematical problems from science and engineering
are very complex and sometimes cannot be solved directly.

Therefore, measuring a complex Mathematical problem is very important to make it easier to solve. Due to
the great advances in computational technology, numeracy has become very popular and is a modern tool
for scientists and engineers.

4 Biophysics, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, medical instrumentation, and the installation of

biotechnological systems all use numerical methods.

For example, development of mathematical models and methods of statistics: expansion of the field of
knowledge in medicine; new highly effective diagnostic and treatment methods that underlie the
development of life support systems; representatives of medical technology.

5 Nowadays mathematics is being successfully applied to a number of important fields in medicine

including biofluids, cardiovascular diseases, clinical schedules and tests, dataanalysis, drug design and
discovery, epidemiology, genetics, image processing, immunology, instrumentation, microbiology,
neuroscience, oncology, virology and more.

The list of tools includes virtually the whole of applied mathematics.

To cite the most familiar ones: difference equations and discrete-time dynamical systems, information
and coding theory, graph and network theory, integral transforms, numerical and computational
mathematics, ordinary differential equations and continuous-time dynamical systems, partial
differential equations, stochastic and time-delay differential equations, statistics, probability and time-
series analysis.

6 The need for mathematics learning to understand complicated phenomena is the root problem
of mathematics' impact in modern science. Quantification of observations, modeling,
classification, optimization, data processing, analysis, prediction, and validation are all aspects of
the mathematical approach.

7 The chapter shows the complexity and depth of the mathematical methods currently used in medicine,
especially in pathology, cardiology, and neuroscience. It also nicely demonstrates how several
mathematical disciplines frequently cooperate in the modeling and study of a specific subject.
