Moral Clarity:
What is a core issue or problem?
The automobile company where Charlie works made a faulty electronic sensor. The purpose of the
sensor was to avoid collisions between vehicles. But it failed due to a faulty design. Many people
died of accidents due to this.
Critical Information:
1)Bolt-Z100 – with almost the same facilities was already introduced before their company does
2)The company was creating pressure on them to complete the project before reaching the
deadline.
4)Charlie’s team didn’t negotiate or argue with the company about the deadline.
5)Charlie told his team about the possible problem but they didn’t care.
Consider options:
Option 1:
Charlie could inform the higher post officers or policymakers about this fact. He should describe the
possible problem to them.
Option 2: Charlie could make a press conference & let the world know about the irresponsibility of
the automobile company.
Option 3: Charlie could go to law enforcement agencies & tell them about the possible fact.
Option 4: Charlie could go to the court & ask for a writ “Why this project won’t be stopped?”
Option 5: Charlie could negotiate with the policymakers about the deadline. He could describe
briefly the necessity of testing the sensor in every possible test case. He may offer the company to
hire some more engineers to make the project full fill without any possibility of collision. In a
sentence, he can handle the situation by discussing with higher officials & making them understand.
Option 6: Charlie could inform the relevant government agencies. Make a reasonable decision: -
Charlie should go for Option 5. - If the company overruled him again & again then he should go for
Action 6. So, Charlie should not reveal everything (his belief that the testing was inadequate and his
recent discovery) and cost the company a great deal of money. Moreover, he should convince the
company that the testing was adequate. He shouldn’t keep it to himself that he knew that there was
something wrong with the design.
