Subject Code/Title : Values 10

Lecturer : Mrs. Lorna Sto. Tomas

Student : Glyrien Tayag

Topic : CRITICAL ANALYSIS

I. TITLE:

- “Freedom in decision making”

II. SUMMARY

- “Who will bring the golden dog for me?” Is a short story about a king who has been devoted on
serving his kingdom whole-heartedly. He is getting older and is worrying about who will be the next heir
of the kingdom. The king was blessed to have three sons. He gave his son a mission, to gives him a
golden dog, he gave the three of them equally 100 gold coins to carry out the mission. The first son was
to rash on making a decision, leading him to spend all of his gold coins and bring back nothing of a
golden dog. The second son was ignorant of the lives and people of his kingdom and focused on his
mission, he hired a forger and commanded him to make a golden dog. The third son was wise, he trusts
his process and even made an impact to the lives and people of his kingdom, he gave employment on
them and built schools and hospitals and in the end, he gave the king a golden dog made out of cotton
that is from his own gathering. The third son was blessed to have the throne for he deserved it for he
shows the characteristic of a king.

III. ANALYSIS

- Freedom is the right of a person to do what he wishes without any restraint and the feeling of
enslaver.

- A decision is an action or process of deciding about a certain issue.

- Decisions can be influenced by the people around us like friend group and the social standards.

- Sometimes, people do the “bahala na” decision to avoid stressing about the problem.

IV. CONCLUSION

Always be considerate of the consequences of the decision to you and the people around you. Planning
out the decision always led to a good or less painful solutions.
C. DAY 3 (ACTIVITY 3)

CASE STUDY

PROBLEM # 1. Imagine yourself as a class officer and you are tasked by your class adviser to come up
with some projects that will be a source of funds for the annual outreach activity of the school. Most of
the class officers are very enthusiastic and a good number of interesting ideas have been brought to the
table. Your class President seems to have already a project in mind and nonchalantly dismisses the other
ideas. The other class officers felt disrespected and are threatening to pull out their support from the
President. Using the lesson on the freedom on making decisions, how can you defuse the heated
situation, back harmony to the group and decide on a project that will benefit a lot of people.

List down 3 possible solutions:

1. The very first and most effective solution for this is of course to tell the president that his or her fellow
officers have the right to share their ideas and to be considered. This will lead him/her to reflect on his
action and maybe tries to listen to his fellow officers.

2. We may have a majority vote if the president’s idea is really that great to be launched as official.

3. I may encourage my fellow officers to fight for their right to share and be considered.

V. Values Integration:

How can you inspire your friends to be responsible for their actions?

- I have a group of friends back at elementary school and until now, we are very well connected.
We have been friends for 8 years and we have created the bond and trust to listen to everyone’s
opinion and do not let anyone feel alone. As we discuss about our problem, we give and receive
advices that we really much consider. Seeing them being able to solve their problems by making
the right decision is very relieving. When I have a problem, I do my best to solve it within the
perimeter of the people involved in the situation, and if I did not manage to do that, I ask help
from them. As I hear their given solution, I consider the consequences on them before making a
decision. The earlier you solve problem, the more it will be easier to forget and cope.
