First Aid Vocabulary - Key Words and Expressions bite - a wound made by the teeth of an animal or person. bleeding - loss of bload. burn - an injury caused by fire or touching something that is very hot. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) - an emergency procedure performed to restart someone's heart if it hes stopped beating and they are in cardiac arrest. choking - being unable to breathe because something is lodged in your throat. crush - to squash or compress something (verb); a crowd of people packed tightly together (noun). diarrhoea - loose or liquid bowel movements, that are more frequent than usual. dressing - a sterile covering made from a fabric called gauze, which is applied to keep wounds clean. first aid - emergency treatment immediately following an accident, before the emergency services arrive. first aider - a person who has been trained to give first aid treatment. Company first aiders attend to people who have been injured at work and fill in accident report forms. first aid kit - a box containing first aid supplies and equipment which can he used to treat someone who has been injured in an emergency. fluids - liquids. Fluid circulating around the body may be lost due to vomiting, burns, or diarrhoea fracture - a broken bone
