Welcome to our series of phonics workbooks for grades K-3.
The purpose of these workbooks is to help students learn to match the sounds of spoken English with
individual letters and groups of letters.
Kindergarten phonics workbook
The grade 1-2 workbook focuses on:
• The h-brothers: ch, ph, sh, th, wh sounds. For example, chess, thaw, whole.
• Consonant s-blends, l-blends, and r-blends. For example, skate, blanket, bread.
• Other consonant blends: tw, qu and wr. For example, twig, queen, write.
• Ending consonant blends. For example, tent, card, melt.
• Ending double consonants. For example: bell, glass, off, jazz.
• Long vowel sounds. For example, baby, equal, pony, music.
• Final e words. For example, grade, slide, robe, flute.
• Soft c and g sounds. For example, city, giraffe.
• Vowel digraphs. For example, rain, meal, soap, noise.

Tips on using this book
• This is not a quiet activity workbook. Work with your child to sound out the word for each picture, placing
an emphasis on the vowel sounds covered on each worksheet.
• Encourage your child to trace or print the letters in the workbook or on a separate piece of paper. This will
help solidify the sound/symbols recognition.
• Ask your child to think of other words that start with the letter sounds being practiced. Can your child
think of three words? Make a game of this exercise.
• Keep the learning fun and give positive praise and encouragement along the way.
