WEEK 10 S6MT – Ig-j-3
I. OBJECTIVE

A. Content Standard: The Learners demonstrate understanding of different techniques to

separate mixture

B. Performance Standard: The learners should be able to tell and describe the benefits of
separating mixture from products in the community

C. Learning Competency: The learners should be able to tell the benefits of separating
mixtures from products in the community. S6MT-Ig-j-3

D. Sub tasked Competency: Tells the benefits of separating mixtures from products
in the community

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Techniques in Separating Mixture

B. Science Idea: The benefits of the separating mixtures from products in the community
may include: (a) allows us to use some materials being separated from the
given mixture; and (b) to produce new useful products from materials being
separated.
C. Science Processes: Identifying, Observing, Describing

D. Value Focus: Cooperation and respect to others

Look for the words in the puzzle based on the given clues.

(Modified Word Puzzle may be used)

Clues:

1. Technique used to separate alcohol and water mixture.

2. Object used to separate magnetic materials from a mixture.

3. Particles left at the bottom after using sedimentation and decantation

4. Technique used to separate salt water solution

5. Technique used to separate pebbles from rice grains

Bring to the class your “Mystery Box” with the following materials inside: sifter,
magnets, cloth, pictures of techniques in separating mixtures and the materials used.

Show to the class the box with some sort inside. Let them guess what are inside the
box. Ask some children to pick one objects from the box and let them identify it. Then the
pupils will place the objects on top of the table.

When all the objects from the box are revealed and placed on top of the table, ask the
children the following:

a. What are the uses of the real objects? (They may be used to separate mixtures)

b. What do the following pictures show? (They show different techniques in separating
mixture)
c. Which real objects do you use at home? and how do they work in separating mixture?

d. Which picture shows the same thing in your community?

e. What are the benefits of separating mixture from product?

That will be learned from today’s lesson

ELABORATE

Let the pupils formulate the science idea by answering the question
below:
What are the benefits of separating mixture from products in the community?
(The benefits of the separating mixtures from products in the community may
include: (a) allows us to use some materials being separated from the given
mixture; and (b) to produce new useful products from materials being
separated.)

Show to the class the following pictures below.

Ask:
a. What does the pictures above show?
b. What can we do to remediate the said occurrence?
c. What technique of separating mixture can be used to solve the problem?
d. What trait should we consider to give solution to the said problem?
EVALUATE
Matching Type. Match the pictures in column A with the benefits in column B. Write
the letter of the correct answer.

A B

a. Electromagnetic crane used to separate

magnetic junk from non-magnetic junk
b. Use of strainer to separate the tea leaves from
the tea extract.
c. Archeologists use screen sifter to separate
genuine artifacts from sand.

d. Saltwater under the heat of the sun during salt
