2. The probability that a patient has a particular disease is 0.001. The probability that a test
for the disease give a positive result when the patient has the disease is 0.995. When the
patient does not have the disease, the probability that the test giving negative result is 0.995
too.
(a)Find the probability that the result of the test is positive ( 3 marks )
(b)Find the probability that he patient has the disease given that the result of the test is
positive ( 3 marks )

(b)Construct a 95% symmetrical confidence interval for the proportion of students who are
overweight. Interpret your answer. ( 4

(c)Determine the minimum sample size has to be taken so that 95% symmetrical confidence
interval has a sampling error less than 1% . ( 3 marks )

5. The percentage of ‘grade F’ in mathematics is used to be 0.30 in a class. A new teaching


method that claims to reduce the grade ‘F ‘percentage has been introduced in the class. A
sample of 20 students is selected and it found that 3 of them getting grade ’F’. Using a 10%
significance level, decide whether there has sufficient evidence to support the claim.

7. The average time taken for the students in a collage to complete a project is used to be 30
hours. The time, x , hours , taken by a random sample of 150 students is summarized as

(a)Determine, at 5% significance level, whether the population mean time for a student to

the manufacturer’s claim is rejected. Hence, state the conclusion of the test at 10%
significance level. Justify your answer. ( 4 marks )
(c) State the assumption that you have made about the population in order for the test to be
