To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to you regarding the English Teacher position you have advertised. Having completed two years of Student

Teaching, the role at your school would be my ideal next step in my teaching career.

I have recently graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Secondary Education in English. I have received

my state certification to teach Language Arts at the secondary level curricula (grades 6-12.) During my student teaching

at Rochester High School, I taught mixed-ability students in class sizes ranging from 12 to 37. I worked closely with a co-

teacher to provide consistent support to all students, taught two sections of LA9 Essentials, and prioritized differentiated

instruction, testing, and assignments for all students.

My teaching style is structured to help students progress in a safe learning environment. I plan to instill a love for

learning in my classroom by promoting high expectations, student engagement, and maintaining relationships with my

students. I pride myself in accommodating all students, assisting individual students so they may improve their academic

ability, and keeping 504/IEPs at the forefront of my mind when designing lessons to appeal to multiple types of learners.

I incorporate technology and engaging activities within my everyday lessons so that students connect with the content

on a more personal level. I have adapted my teaching style to include Google Classroom, SMART boards, and online

review/formative assessment websites such as Quizlet and Nearpod, etc.

At the forefront of my teaching philosophy, I view communication as a key asset for students and parents. I aim to

maintain communication regarding student achievement or concerns, keep students and parents updated regarding

deadlines or important dates, and send weekly newsletters to provide accurate information about student

expectations/classwork from the week. Communication between teachers and parents is vital to student success and I

strive to prioritize this aspect within my classroom.

I would love the opportunity to find out more about your school, community, and approach to teaching.

Sincerely,

Morgan Hawkes
